Assist and help maintain the City of Edmonton, one tree at a time!
This position will have you operating aerial bucket trucks for pruning and maintaining trees as a Developmental Arborist and assisting Certified Arborists in daily operations. Join the Forestry Operations Team as a Developmental Arborist.
What will you do?
Assist the Arborist in day-to-day tree care-related tasks
Operate equipment related to urban tree care
Prune trees to develop and maintain tree health
Tree Removals, including hazard tree removals
Various tree maintenance, as required (eg. sucker removal, bolting/cabling)
Respond to emergency storm-related work
Operate and perform minor maintenance on equipment, which may include: chainsaws, wood chippers, and various pruning tools
Provide traffic control and direction, including greeting the public and providing prompt and courteous service
Respond to tree complaints related to the Urban Forest Conduct job duties in a safe manner in compliance with City and Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Legislation regulations, codes, policies, and competency training
Update inventory on COE software
Complete task cards, work records, and interpret work assignments
Other related duties as required
Completion of Grade 12 or GED
6 months of experience in urban tree care. Eligible experience will include hours worked as a Forestry Labourer, developmental Arborist I, and/or related external urban tree care experience
Assets:
Urban tree care courses/training such as chainsaw operations, barricading, flagperson, fall protection, electrical awareness, ground worker operation, and pruning a
Standard First Aid certification, including AED, CPR, and WHMIS
Skills required for success:
Experience and knowledge in large tree care, plant identification, and tree pest identification
The ability, willingness, and expectation to operate or be trained on aerial bucket trucks and other related forestry tasks

Conditions of Employment:
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Must be physically capable of performing the duties assigned to the class and be able to work in all weather conditions
Must be willing to receive respirator fit testing and wear an air respirator when required to do so (i.e., air quality index reaches 7 or above) unless there is a valid medical exemption

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week
Salary Range: $33.576 - $34.510 (Hourly); $70,106.690 - $72,056.880 (Annually)
