About the Position
We are looking for a qualified PCW to provide ongoing or short term care for our residents in a professional and compassionate manner.
The ideal candidate will be dependable and courteous with outstanding communication skills. You are a committed team player, with a passion for providing exceptional service and support, have an empathetic and respectful approach and great attention to detail, paying attention to the ‘little things’.
As a Retirement Residence, The Berkeley is a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week operation. This position is part time working days, evenings, nights, weekends, and some statutory holidays.
Responsibilities
Provide personal care to residents such as aiding in ambulation, bathing, personal hygiene, and dressing/undressing
May prepare snacks and assist in feeding the resident, if required
Assist residents to the Dining Room for meals or delivers a food tray to the residents’ apartment
Perform routine housekeeping duties such as laundry, washing dishes, making beds, or mopping floors.
May perform routine health-related duties such as collecting specimens under the general direction of the General Manager/Resident Care Coordinator.
Provide companionship to residents
Observe any changes in residents’ condition and communicates these changes to the General Manager/Resident Care Coordinator.
Work in conjunction with other members of the Health Care Team, to provide effective and appropriate standards of care for all residents.
Ensure residents’ personal hygiene and other necessary household items are in stock
Support and encourage residents to maintain an independent lifestyle for as long as possible.
Follow all health and safety legislation as it relates to the Nursing and Health Care Departments.
Ensure use of proper infection control techniques and sanitation.
Practice safety measures to prevent injuries, including proper body mechanics
Requirements
Experience in Personal Care work with older adults
CCA certification and/or courses in Personal Care would be an asset
First Aid and CPR certificates
Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills
Able to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage when times are slow
Empathy for, and an understanding of older adults, aging in place and cognitive impairment
Positive attitude and the ability to build relationships
Patient and friendly with demonstrated experience in problem solving
Flexibility to work various shifts and locations, as required
Approximately 12 hours per week.
