Position Summary

Tla’amin Nation’s Department of Education, in support of its delivery of a Language Proficiency Certificate Program beginning this fall delivered in partnership with the University of Victoria, is seeking a part-time IT Support person to provide live, real-time technical assistance to instructors and students. The successful candidate will be responsible for resolving tech-related challenges during class time and ensuring a smooth, accessible online learning experience for all participants.
This role is ideal for a friendly, reliable, and tech-savvy individual who is comfortable supporting learners of all ages and skill levels, with experience with learning management systems, and a talent for clear communication and patient problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla’amin laws, regulations, policies, practices and procedures as directed by the Director of Education. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to Citizens, clients, employees and general matters of the Nation.
Provide live IT support during class times, ensuring minimal disruption to instruction.
Troubleshoot audio/video, connectivity, login, and general user-access issues on learning platforms such as Teams, Brightspace, and related tools.
Assist students and instructors in accessing course materials, uploading assignments, and navigating the online learning environment.
Document and track common tech issues and provide follow-up support and resources as needed.
Collaborate with instructors and the program coordinator to identify and pre-empt potential tech-related issues.
Offer brief instructional support to students and staff (e.g., how to share screens, use discussion boards, upload files).
Ensure all participants can engage fully and comfortably with the online learning tools.
Provide tech support to students outside of class time.
Other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Individuals with Indigenous ancestry preferred.
Training, Education, Experience
Experience providing IT or tech support, particularly in educational or customer service settings.
Experience supporting online or hybrid learning environments would be an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Experience with Microsoft Windows and Office environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to explain tech solutions clearly to people with varying digital literacy.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve common hardware/software and platform-related issues.
Comfortable working with mature learners and intergenerational groups.
Familiarity with virtual learning tools and learning management systems like Brightspace Teams and Zoom using various video and audio configurations to ensure optimal video coverage of presenters, clean clear audio and ability to capture class discussions.
Ability to be in-person in the Tla’amin community of t?išos?m during class times.
Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Familiarity with Indigenous education contexts or language revitalization programs.
Flexible and adaptable to shifting technology needs or schedule changes.
Knowledge of UVIC systems or past experience with post-secondary tech support is an advantage.
Knowledge of Tla’amin Nation, the culture, teachings, and Comprehensive Nation Plan would be an asset
Experience using projectors and smartboards.
Experience installing and troubleshooting network printers.
Working Conditions
Work will be performed primarily in the language classroom and may occasionally require paid hours to be worked outside of class time to address tech challenges and meet with the Nation’s IT team accordingly.
