The Casual Warehouse & Transportation Associate is a dual-role operations and logistics position within the Food Security Department. This team member supports both the day-to-day operations of the Food Security Distribution Centre and the transportation of product between The Mustard Seed Street Church’s (MSSC) locations and community partners. The role involves collecting, processing, and re-distributing rescued food product to various streams, including the Food Share Network agencies, the MSSC Market, and meal programs at our Queens location.
Key Responsibilities
Warehouse & Logistics Duties
Preparing and labeling daily orders
Serving FSN agencies by communicating with agency reps and building orders efficiently and equitably
Using the scale and scale program to record incoming and outgoing weights
Ensuring health and safety and cleanliness in the warehouse
Communicating effectively with donors, vendors, partner agencies, staff, volunteers, and the public
Supporting orientation, training, and oversight of volunteers and students
Sorting bread into various streams for farmer pickup or agency distribution
General cleanliness of the warehouse and surrounding areas
Assisting drivers with unloading trucks or taking out cardboard bins as needed
Occasional data entry, product organization, event, and kitchen support
Communicating with the Market team for daily perishable and non-perishable orders
Participating in relevant team meetings and trainings
Transportation Duties
Safe and courteous operation of MSSC vehicles
Promoting and modeling health and safety practices
Ensuring the safety of all staff, volunteers, clients, and donors during pick-ups and deliveries
Collaborating with Shipping/Receiving and team members for efficient distribution
Maintaining and reporting on all transportation equipment (vehicles, carts, dollies, bins, forklifts, pallet jacks)
Completing daily truck inspection/trip sheets and Route Checklists
Supporting events hosted by the Development team as needed and under guidance
Communicating route issues, donation supports, and extra pickups effectively

Qualifications
Required:
Valid BC Driver’s License and acceptable abstract
Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Clearance
Medical Clearance letter
Forklift and power jack certification (or willingness to obtain ASAP)
Computer skills and competency with Microsoft Office, data collection/entry
Assets:
Experience driving 5, 3, and 1-ton trucks or Sprinter vans
Food Handling Safety Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
WHMIS, Standard First Aid & CPR-C
Experience completing vehicle inspection forms
Previous warehouse or logistics experience
Terms of Employment
Term: Casual, On-Call
Shift range: Monday to Saturday; typically 6/7am–2pm for driving, and 8am–4pm for warehouse operations; occasional event support including evenings or weekends as needed
Must be willing to sign the Staff Code of Conduct
