Position Overview
Under the general supervision of the MANAGER OF HEALTH SERVICES, MENTAL HEALTH, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values and Management Philosophy of St. Boniface Hospital, the AMBULATORY CARE NURSE: INTERVENTIONAL PSYCHIATRY working under the general direction of the physician's care plan and collaborating with him/her/them in adapting the plan of care, is responsible for: the assessment, monitoring and administering of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), intravenous (IV) ketamine treatments, as well as the planning, implementation, and evaluation of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) treatments. The Interventional Psychiatry Nurse may also support short and long-term therapy by attending to the relevant physiological, psychological and sociological needs of the patient; providing individual, group and family therapy; and providing consultation to the multidisciplinary health care team.
Experience
Three (3) years clinical experience in acute care psychiatric nursing required (within the last five (5) years.
Knowledge of ECT, rTMS and ketamine pharmacology.
Demonstrated clinical competence in delivery of psychiatric nursing services to patients with a variety of psychiatric disorders.
Knowledge of community agencies/programs desired.
Group therapy skills and crisis intervention skills desired.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
Baccalaureate of Nursing, or R.P.N. with B.A. (major) in Psychology preferred, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered.
Active Basic Life Support or Advanced Cardiac Life Support required.
SPECIAL TRAINING:
TMS certification preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
Current CRNM/CRPNM registration required.
Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
Qualifications and Skills
Required to be self-motivated to ensure clinical practice skills and knowledge remain current.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills, to assist in working effectively with the interdisciplinary team.
Ability to deal with stressful and challenging situations.
