PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Reporting, the Manager, Financial Reporting leads a small team responsible for internal and external reporting of analysis of consolidated results and operating metrics, prepares tax and entity reporting and maintains stakeholder relationship with Taxation.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Coordinate amongst multiple teams detailed management and integrated reporting activities on a recurring basis in order to support rapid and accurate period-end reporting
Maintain exemplary relationships with the multiple internal stakeholders that support the reporting process (accounting and finance teams, and teams that deliver operational metrics) or require its output (senior leadership, investor relations)
Coordinate preparation, and review of executive reports on financial results, including operating metrics, business drivers and variance explanations (monthly short summary of key results variances “flash” report, quarterly earnings per share and operating ratio “waterfall” report with supporting schedules)
Review tax and entity financial statements, manage subsidiary audit for tax and regulatory compliance purpose, and maintain effective stakeholder relationship with Taxation team
Review external financial disclosures on consolidated variances of financial results
Review journal entries and account reconciliations in support of Corporate Reporting team accountabilities
Identify, analyze and reconcile inconsistent information and recommend adjustments where necessary
Identify and support process improvement and monitor existing process to ensure continuous improvement
Lead or support team projects and initiatives including quarter end and year end external and management reporting, process documentation, data management and system optimization
Coach, supervise and develop direct reports
Ensure financial reporting and disclosures comply with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and securities regulations, and underlying processes comply with internal controls Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) requirements
Address queries from auditors and internal reviewers
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Accounting Designation, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA)
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience required (public company external reporting or audit, desirable)
Minimum of 2 years management or leadership skills including coaching, motivating, team building, change management, process reviews
Possess a strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
Ability to set and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
