The Systems Engineer provides technical expertise on hardware and software issues related to surveillance systems including, but not limited to Multilateration (MLAT) and Ground Based Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B). Respond to system change and problem reports by determination of root cause, development of work around, recommendations and/or implementation of solutions. Evaluate vendor supplied systems and software, provide recommendations in support of initial deployment and throughout the lifecycle of the product. Define enhancement specifications with concerned parties; make cost estimates to establish enhancement funding and arrange for price and availability requests; design, develop, and implement enhancements. Participate in projects of varying complexity including documentation of technical requirements, statements of work, engineering briefs and system test scenarios. Job Requirements Education: Graduation from a recognized university with a degree in electrical, electronic, computer or aerospace engineering with eligibility for certification as a Professional Engineer in Canada. Experience: Experience in the planning, design and/or implementation of hardware/software and/or electronic projects. Experience in the development of specifications, standards, and procedures. Experience in investigating analyzing and resolving life cycle performance issues with surveillance systems such as Multilateration and Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast. Knowledge: Knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, practices, and technology in the field of ATC. Surveillance systems, data communications and computer systems. Knowledge of current and emerging technologies including but not limited to electromagnetic theory including RF propagation, Signal processing and techniques applicable to Detection Systems. Knowledge of various software applications including operational systems (Windows and LINUX), networking, and communication standards and protocols. A working knowledge of project management principles and techniques, system engineering process and practices, business practices and decision-making techniques. Knowledge of Canadian and International, Organizations, regulations and standards related to the operation of radars used for air traffic control is an asset. Knowledge on Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). Abilities: Ability to analyze, investigate, evaluate, and implement solutions. Ability to create, document and execute test plans, cases, and scripts for software and system changes. Ability to provide advice, guidance, and opinions related to surveillance systems. Attention to detail, consistent and meticulous. Ability to plan, conduct and/or review comprehensive studies, to prepare and/or review reports on specific aspects of unusual problems with existing or proposed operations or facilities. Ability to work autonomously under minimal supervision and to handle multiple concurrent projects. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to write specification, standards, statements of work and general engineering documents. Ability to work in a team environment.
