Grower 1 will be responsible for ensuring nursery cultural practices are planned and implemented to achieve target standards for all products while assisting in risk management activities ensuring stock is properly protected to avoid losses. The person in the Grower 1 position assists with the production of quality forest seedling crops by applying effective forest nursery practices and principles. This position provides an opportunity to operationally assist, co-ordinate and train forest nursery workers in required nursery work activities. This engaging, high paced, physical position offers a safe work environment and an opportunity for a career that will make a positive change in the world. Candidates should have a desire and keenness to learn about the seed processing activities at PRT Harrop, work independently and efficiently. Regular work hours are 40 hours per week with varying shift times and on-call responsibilities by grow season, weekend work and shift work are required. Relevant experience in horticulture is required. Successful applicants will be required to complete in house online training and obtain a pesticide applicator certificate. Candidates may be interviewed and tested to assess their skill, ability, competence, and efficiency for this position.Key accountabilities of the Grower 1 are:Keep neat and accurate records including computerized record keeping systemsSupervise and train the Grow Team and forest nursery workersOperate computerized and other control systemsMaintain, repair and upgrade nursery facilities and ensure proper maintenance of equipmentFollow a company directed Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program for pesticide applicationPromote collaboration and teamwork at all levelsSet targets (i.e., production, timelines) and evaluate achievementAbout the team:The person filling the Grower 1 position will work alongside other nursery workers and will report to the Operations Manager.QualificationsEnough about us, let’s talk about you: Required/ Minimum Qualifications & Skills:A two-year diploma in horticulture or agriculture, or an acceptable combination of formal training and relevant experienceValid Driver’s License and reliable transportationKnowledge of greenhouse equipment and climate control systemsProficient understanding of production processes, quality control principles, and safety regulationsStrong planning, organization, and time management skillsIntermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)Ability to work independently and in a team environmentStrong and professional communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skillsGreat organizational and record keeping skillsAbility to provide basic maintenance of facilities and equipmentPreferred Qualifications & Skills:Pesticide Applicator CertificateRelevant forest seedling nursery experienceAdditional InformationWHAT WE OFFER:TOTAL REWARDS AT PRT:Grow Your Career, Cultivate Your Potential.
