PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT, SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Architect to join our
expanding technology team. This pivotal role requires a proven technical leader
who will guide the architectural design and development of scalable,
high-performance systems. Deep expertise in Java, Angular, AWS, and relational
databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL (or similar technologies) is essential.
The Principal Architect will collaborate extensively across multiple teams and
stakeholder groups, many of whom contribute to the same core systems with
varying levels of maturity and diverse coding practices. A critical aspect of
this role involves unifying and elevating development efforts through technical
guidance, code quality standards, and comprehensive architectural leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Technical Leadership and System Design: Lead the design, development, and
deployment of scalable, robust software systems, setting benchmarks for
engineering excellence.
- Architectural Modernization: Provide technical direction in the modernization
of legacy systems, identifying strategic opportunities for refactoring,
re-architecting, or replacement with contemporary technologies.
- Mentorship and Engineering Excellence: Offer technical leadership and
mentorship to development teams, fostering a culture of engineering
excellence and continuous improvement.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate closely with a broad group of
stakeholders and engineering teams, many of whom contribute to shared systems
with varying coding standards and system maturities, to establish and align
on consistent, scalable best practices.
- Complex Problem Resolution: Analyze intricate business and technical
challenges, designing elegant, maintainable, and extensible solutions.
- Quality Assurance and Standards: Conduct comprehensive architecture and code
reviews to ensure adherence to industry standards and internal guidelines.
- Technological Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry
trends, recommending tools, frameworks, and practices that enhance
productivity and quality.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: Proven experience as a Staff, Principal, or Lead Software
Engineer, or a similar senior-level role, with a strong record of technical
leadership.
- Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated strong proficiency in Java, Angular, and
AWS.
- Database Experience: Hands-on experience with relational databases such as
MySQL and PostgreSQL.
- System Architecture: A track record of designing and building scalable,
distributed systems.
- Collaboration and Alignment: Demonstrated success in collaborating with and
aligning multiple development teams with differing coding standards and
system maturity levels.
- Architectural Understanding: Deep understanding of software architecture
principles and modern engineering best practices.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to
simplify complex systems.
- Communication: Strong communication skills and extensive experience working
cross-functionally in a collaborative environment.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or
a related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with microservices architecture and containerization technologies
(e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Prior experience in mentoring and fostering the growth of engineering teams.
