PLEASE NOTE: This is a full-time co-op position with a DURATION OF 4 to 8 MONTHS, ideal for students seeking practical, hands-on experience. The Analyst is responsible supporting various aspects of the company's indirect tax functions and will collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., fleet, tax technology, strategic sourcing, operations, sales and finance). This role involves conducting tax research, assisting with mergers and acquisitions (M&A) tax reviews, ensuring fuel tax compliance, and handling a variety of ad-hoc tax-related tasks. Key Responsibilities · Conduct comprehensive research on sales and use tax laws, regulations, and rulings across various jurisdictions in Canada and the U.S. · Assist in indirect tax due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and other business transactions. Analyze potential tax liabilities and provide recommendations for mitigating risks and optimizing tax outcomes. · Assist in fuel tax compliance activities, including the preparation and filing of fuel tax returns, tracking fuel usage, and staying up-to-date on changes in fuel tax laws and regulations. · Coordinate all returns, journal entries and follow-ups for refunds on a timely basis. · Gather and analyze data related to sales, purchases, and other transactions to ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance. Additionally, identify and recommend process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of indirect tax processes. · Handle a variety of ad-hoc indirect tax assignments and special projects as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn new areas of indirect taxation. Systems and Technology · Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Excel and Power Query. · Knowledge of GP, WorkDay, TRUX and Geotab is an asset. · Experience with Alteryx is an asset. Education and Qualifications · Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution studying Finance, Accounting or Tax, preferably in a co-op program. · Completion of at least 1-2 work terms. · Ability to research and communicate with tax authorities for tax questions/issues. · Knowledge of indirect tax rules and compliance is an asset. · Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and maintain exceptional attention to detail. · Intermediate verbal and written communication skills are preferred due to the need for extensive cross-departmental collaboration.
