Your opportunity:
Evidence in Governance and Politics (EGAP) is a research, evaluation, and learning network with worldwide reach with the goals of promoting rigorous knowledge accumulation, innovation, and evidence-based policy in various governance domains. EGAP’s membership includes over 300 leading academic researchers and practitioners of governance innovations from 43 countries around the world. The EGAP Secretariat is based in the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto, Canada.
The Program Manager is a key member of the EGAP Secretariat and provides oversight of program operational activities, administrative items, and projects.
This is a two-year term opportunity.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Identifying, developing and executing strategies for research and development collaborations
- Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
- Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
- Keeping well-informed on research funding programs, application guidelines, policies/procedures and regulations
- Fostering and maintaining networks to build capacity and collaboration
- Forecasting, planning and monitoring multiple complex budgets and overseeing contracts, grant awards and related agreements
- Conducting detailed data analysis to inform management decision making
- Directing the activities of a single ongoing staff-appointed employee
Essential Qualifications:
- Master's Degree required.
- Minimum five years of experience in program management and governance in academic settings, with some experience supporting a global research, evaluation, and training-focused research network.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing plans and processes for managing complex global-reaching research program operations.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and fostering positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including experience cultivating successful partnerships with government, academic, and other not-for-profit organizations to advance research and training outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience developing research proposals, briefing documents, narrative and financial reports, grant applications and contracts.
- Experience with forecasting, planning, and monitoring complex budgets. Experience reconciling and reporting on complex funding accounts.
- Proven project management skills, including the ability to set priorities, leverage and adjust allocation of limited resources, meet deadlines, liaise with global stakeholders, and resolve disputes.
- Experience supervising and leading staff in a unionized environment.
- Superior communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, and proven success working across diverse cultural contexts in the Global North and Global South.
- Sound understanding of grant application procedures and granting agency requirements around topics of governance, institutions, cumulation of knowledge, and researcher-practitioner collaboration, and proven experience advising others.
- Demonstrated abilities in cultivating and fostering networks of contacts and interests.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve issues in a creative and effective manner.
- Exceptional ability to exercise judgement and independent decision making.
- Ability to act with tact, discretion and maintain confidentiality.
