The Candidate and Responsibilities
Applicants for this position will be self-motivated with a high degree of initiative and will possess strong interpersonal skills, be attentive to detail, and able to build trusting relationships. The candidate will work in a team setting and will report directly to the Senior Director of Finance and work in conjunction with all other departments in the company.
The Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing the full accounting cycle for a portfolio of both income producing properties and properties under development. The main responsibilities of this role include:
Leadership:
Is a Corporate Culture champion by supporting and setting the tone of company culture
Provide input on annual business planning activities for the accounting team
Support the implementation of new processes, technology, tools that will enable operating efficiency for the team
Ensure a high level of engagement of their team behind initiatives.
Coordinate resource allocation decisions (role, responsibilities, capacity, organization, prioritization) for the accounting team
Attract and select diverse and talents for the department and the company
Mentorship, People Performance and Career Development for direct report(s)
Monthly Accountabilities:
Produce and review monthly financial statements and supplementary reporting as required including monitoring accounts receivable and accounts payable
Ensure we are appropriately reporting under the relevant financial reporting framework
Prepare quarterly consolidation for a portfolio of assets
Ensure all GST and other legislated taxes and assessments are reconciled and remitted
Monitor cash positions, and review bank reconciliations and support property level cash forecasting
Review monthly construction progress claim and development draw requests
Prepare quarterly internal and external management reporting packages
Ensure all tenant administration duties are processed per documentation as required
Provide financial and analytical assistance to internal parties
Annual Accountabilities:
Complete and review year end operating cost adjustments and tenant billings for assigned properties
Manage the annual budgeting process for the company, while being responsible for completing property budgets for assigned assets.
Assist in the preparation of supporting working papers and manage and coordinate the year-end audit process and tax filings
Other Accountabilities:
Efficient and effective communication, in a professional manner, with all HP employees
Property sale and disposition lead, including the preparation of statement of adjustments, final operating statements, fund distribution, GST reconciliation, closing of bank accounts, and any other relevant closing duties
Full understanding of all property specific processes and upkeep of pertinent information relating to specific properties
Input / feedback for improving procedures and initiating quality and efficiency enhancements

Competencies, Qualifications, and Required Experience:
Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)
Minimum 5 years Real Estate accounting experience
Strong technical knowledge of accounting and financial reporting standard
Strong computer skills including Word and Excel; knowledge of Yardi Voyager
Experience and knowledge of income producing property accounting and development accounting (preferred)
Skills/Attributes:
Self-motivated and possesses a high level of professionalism
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively in an individual setting
Excellent work ethic and attention to detail

Our Compensation & Benefits Philosophy
Our compensation package includes a competitive base salary, bonus, and potential LTI program. The typical hiring range for this position is $115,000 - $130,000 per year. The actual offered salary may vary and will depend on individual experience, qualifications, and market condidtions for the role. We are also pleased to offer the following benefits:
