Your opportunity:
The Office of the Registrar at U of T Mississauga delivers registrarial services to support U of T Mississauga's academic goals and U of T priorities in the areas of student information, interpretation of policies, and innovation of registrarial interactions. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Student Recruitment, the Student Recruitment Officer works closely with other members of the Student Recruitment and Admissions team to develop and implement strategies and initiatives to assist U of T Mississauga to achieve its recruitment and enrolment objectives with focus on international students within the Canadian and international education systems in public and private high schools, colleges and other universities. The Officer is responsible for representing U of T Mississauga and the U of T domestically and internationally in order to recruit well-qualified international students to the university.
The Student Recruitment Officer develops, plans, co-ordinates and represents U of T Mississauga at events and programs. Working as a member the team, the Officer assists in the co-ordination of campus visits including selection, training and supervision of student ambassadors and volunteers, ensuring student assistants are knowledgeable about the admissions process, requirements, and programs of the university. The Officer advises prospective students and their families on recruitment and admissions to the university and acts as a lead contact with high schools within Canada and abroad with large populations of international students to develop relationships and implement initiatives for pathways to admission at U of T Mississauga.
The Student Recruitment Officer fosters positive relationships between academic and non-academic divisions, departments and student groups at U of T Mississauga and U of T so that internal constituencies are well informed of recruitment activities, and wherever possible are given an opportunity to participate in the recruitment process. The Officer is also responsible for the promotion, and marketing, of the Academic Culture and English (ACE@UTM) Program, working closely with the Manager, Academic Culture and English Program. The Student Recruitment and Admissions Officer will be required to have a valid driver’s license in good standing and to make travel arrangements for extensive travel during certain parts of the year (trips can be up to two weeks at a time) outside Ontario. The Officer will set-up their own equipment for presentations, be prepared to make several presentations each day and have the ability to lift and carry promotion materials (boxes approximately 25 lbs.). These may be subject to public health guidelines related to COVID-19.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting detailed data analysis to inform recruitment strategies and plans
- Fostering and maintaining a network of external contacts to support recruitment strategies
- Maintaining an in-depth knowledge of program advantages compared to competitor programs
- Delivering student recruitment presentations
- Providing detailed information regarding admission requirements to prospective students and applicants
- Advising potential applicants, students, parents, and/or guidance counselors on admissions criteria and processes by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences
- Providing detailed explanations of admissions decisions
- Responding to service requests in a timely fashion
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum four years' experience in university student recruitment and admission
- Experience working with international students and conversant with issues related to student recruitment, admission, university life and international students
- Experience in planning and coordinating large group events and programs
- Experience advising and providing services to a diverse population of youth and their parents
- Experience in public speaking and presenting to diverse groups and working within a rapidly changing environment
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Outstanding customer service and conflict resolution skills with a proven record of tact and diplomacy
- Knowledgeable about a wide variety of high school curricula, English language proficiency requirements and testing options, and U of T admission requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, webinar and social media tools, and CRM systems
