About the Position
This position is responsible for production chemistry that maintains high quality and output in the analytical laboratory. Assaying is carried out using established methods and schedules, while ensuring analytical quality as well as the adherence to safe laboratory practices by working in accordance with the ALS Health and Safety Program.
Specific Responsibilities
Organizing workload according to turnaround time commitments and daily statistics;
Conducting laboratory preparatory work including weighing and solution preparation;
Using established procedures for chemical/instrumental analysis, including combustion, acid digestion, leaching, fusions; gravimetric and titrimetric analysis;
Ensuring analytical quality of analysis and timely reporting of results;
Using Microsoft Excel to create reports and evaluate data;
Performing day-to-day routine care of equipment;
Maintaining a clean work environment;
Assist others, as required;
Observing established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies;
Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
At least one year of experience working in an analytical laboratory;
Strong analytical skills;
Detail oriented with a strong commitment to safety and quality;
Organized, highly motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team;
Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues;
Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);
Strong MS Office skills, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.
Required Qualifications
Recognized Diploma or Degree in Sciences required;
Physical Demands
Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 8 hours;
Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.
