The opportunity:
Reporting to the Supervisor of Leadership, the Lifelong Leaders (LLL), Lead Facilitator at the YMCA of Simcoe Muskoka will be responsible for assisting in the operations of LLL youth leadership programming and providing a safe and welcoming environment for Lifelong Leaders to gather and self-actualize. This role requires fostering trust and respect among participants, while maintaining a supportive atmosphere, that encourages autonomy and self-expression. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of adolescence in our community by providing a supportive and empowering space to realize and develop their own personal legends.
In this role, you will:
Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the YMCA globally.
Demonstrate strong support and commitment to serving all program participants of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka, Lifelong Leaders & Outdoor Education.
Teach and coach a variety of YMCA Leadership based programming as well as Outdoor Education in a variety of settings and locations.
Foster a sense of community and belonging by engaging with youth in positive interactions and offering encouragement and guidance as needed.
Give direct leadership support to the YMCA Lifelong Leaders program.
Build trust and respect among youth participants through consistent and fair interactions, demonstrating empathy, and maintaining confidentiality.
Act as a role model for positive behavior and conflict resolution, helping youth develop social and emotional skills.
Facilitate LLL programming and open-ended activities and opportunities for youth to engage in self-directed learning, such as games, art projects, and music, etc. Taking place on a regular basis at the Midland YMCA HFA location.
Encourage youth to express themselves authentically and explore their interests in a non-judgmental environment.
Continuously building relationships with all community members, participants, staff, volunteers and community partners.
Ensure all safety, program instruction, best practices and procedures are adhered to.
Assist in planning, organizing and implementation of lesson plans/daily lesson plans, progress reports and evaluations.
Maintain records as needed, including attendance sheets, program area maintenance items and daily checklists.
Work as part of a team to always ensure a clean and well-maintained facility.
Provide administrative support to Supervisor of Leadership including training and supervision.
Act as a team leader, modelling best practices with respect to YMCA programming.
Identify and create opportunities to enhance each persons YMCA experience.
Adherence to all provincial and federal legislation relevant to job description.
Monitor program and services for quality, consistency, retention and overall effectiveness.
To participate as a senior member of the Lifelong Leaders program.
Maintain a high level of retention among qualified, high performing LLL staff and volunteers through ongoing role modeling, coaching and mentoring.
You bring:
Degree or Diploma in a relevant discipline (Recreation, Child & Youth Worker, Social Service Worker, etc.)
Able to get Passport & access to reliable transportation preferred
Healthy Child Development training
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Standard First Aid/CPR Certification ‘C’
NLP and YMCA aquatic instructor certification preferred
Minimum 1 year experience working with children & youth in a program delivery environment
Willingness to participate in mandated training to be completed before or shortly after commencement of work including:
AODA Training
Health & Safety Awareness Training
Bill 168 (Violence & Harassment in the Workplace) Training
PCI Compliance
WHMIS
Child Safeguarding Orientation
Willingness to be able to work flexible hours based on client needs
