As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) provides nursing care within the RPN full scope of practice. The position will be based at City designated shelters, e.g., the Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H4) and the Welcome Centre for Women.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Responsibilities include the following, within the scope of practice guidelines provided by the College of Nurses:
Client injections
Management of medication, including receipt and storage of stocked sample medications
Assist with intake process for new clients, e.g., vitals, medical tests, initial assessment/triage of health concerns
Medical procedures such as wound care
Order/restock clinic supplies
Maintenance and quality assurance related to medical equipment and point of care testing
Client education – e.g., glucometer teaching, smoking cessation, healthy lifestyles
Provider directed client follow-up – e.g., calling clients with test results, referral management
Work in consultation with the CMHA Health Centre/CMHA mental health, and health care providers
Other responsibilities as required within the scope of the position
EDUCATION & SKILLS:
Knowledge and skills acquired through the completion of Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) diploma
Current registration with the College of Nurse of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
Two (2) years’ recent relevant clinical nursing experience, in the judgement of the employer
Ability to communicate effectively with clients, public, professionals and staff, both in written and oral form
Knowledge of mental health and relevant legislation
Able to make decisions quickly on available information and take action
A valid Ontario Driver’s License with access to a reliable vehicle and proof of current insurance and licensing are required for this position
Bilingualism in both official languages at the advanced level is an asset for all agency positions
Hours of Work: Thirty-Five (35) hour work week. There will be five seven-hour shifts, 8:00AM-4:00PM, with a one-hour unpaid lunch per week period Sunday to Thursday. Shift schedules will be determined upon hire. Flexible hours are required to meet service needs.
Salary range: Grade 7, $33.51 – $39.62 per hour
Per 2022 - 2026 Collective Agreement
Applicable shift premiums are paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement, Article 17.11.
