Catholic Social Services is currently seeking part-time overnight awake positions, 35 hours per week, Child & Youth Care Worker in EDMONTON to join our Angelus House team. Providing excellent client-centered care, you are confident, thoughtful, and motivated to achieve success when supporting others in your community.
This position has a weekly schedule of: Overnight 4-on-4 off 10P - 7 am going into weekdays 10P - 10 am going into weekend days.
Program Overview:
The Angelus program places focus around high risk individuals aged 13 to 16. Our high risk programs support youth to develop skills aimed to support independent living and reduce involvement in high risk behaviours. This is achieved through harm reduction principles and practices including circle of courage philosophy, strength based and resiliency focused assessments, which promote empowerment and stabilization.
Clients in these programs are provided individual living spaces to allow them to learn independent living and life skills with support of Catholic Social Services staff and external community partners. With counselling and support, clients work towards personal goals and the ability to financially support transitioning to full independent living.
These programs also provide continual outreach support once the client transitions to fully independent living.
Job Summary:
As a Child and Youth Care Worker, you will be responsible for assessing the needs of the youth, providing support and teaching basic life and community skills while ensuring basic needs are met (food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, safety). The Child and Youth Care Worker creates a safe, warm and positive environment where children/youth feel welcomed and cared for. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Managing a caseload of 1-2 youth
Developing and overseeing service plans for youth
Supervising and supporting youth in residential setting
Assisting youth in overcoming barriers, and supporting them to develop positive and healthy relationships with their communities and support networks.
Supporting youth through life skills teaching and in-the-moment learning, with a hands-on approach
Assisting youth in attending appointments and successfully participating in their educational placements and/or day programs
Submitting required program documentation with established time-frames
Performing basic housekeeping and meal preparation duties
Maintaining and updating all required trainings and attending regular staff meetings.
Other duties as required
What This Job Requires:
A Diploma/Degree in Human Services (or equivalent)
A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with youth in care, high risk youth, residential care, and case management is a requirement of this position.
Certification or training in Aboriginal Awareness, Abuse Awareness, Standard First Aid, Medication Administration, and Violence/Crisis Intervention is a definite asset.
The ideal candidate will have an organized and compassionate approach to the work, strong teamwork skills, a commitment to developing positive supporting relationships, and experience supporting the youth. Other qualifications include:
Proven ability to provide effective communication, collaboration, crisis intervention, and conflict management with clients
Experience with or willingness to be trained on physical holds on the individuals that we serve.
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI) must be completed upon hire
Demonstrated assessment, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
Knowledge of community resources is an asset
Intermediate competency with Microsoft Office and other Agency computer applications
Demonstrated ability to act with professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy
Proven case documentation and effective information reporting practices
2 Years of Driving experience will be an asset
