MUSEUM COLLECTION ASSISTANT INTERN
(non-permanent term, approximately 20 weeks)
The City of Lethbridge, Galt Museum and Archives, is accepting applications for the non-permanent, term position of Museum Collection Assistant Intern. We seek an enthusiastic, independent individual, possessing cultural object skills and knowledge to fill a non-permanent opportunity supported by the Young Canada Works (YCW) Building Careers in Heritage program. This is an approximately 20-week internship position and is an excellent opportunity for an individual to build their career in the Museum field. WAGE: $23.77 per hour
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week
TERM: Approximately 20 weeks, starting September 15, 2025 to January 23, 2026
DUTIES: Under the direction of the Museum Collection Technician, the Assistant will add newly acquired objects’ details and features to the Museum’s object database. To advance the work, they will additionally handle, label and permanently house their assigned cultural items as well as photograph them, adding their image files to the database.
QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidates must observe the highest standards of artifact care. Attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and with volunteers are requirements for this position. The successful candidate holds a post-secondary degree in humanities, social sciences or art; or a post-graduate program in cultural resource management. Strong research, database and records management skills and writing skills are required. Knowledge and application of standard Museum or Archival practices, artifact cataloguing, studio photography, and managing volunteers will be considered an important asset.
