UNION TANK CAR COMPANY / PROCOR ORGANIZATION (UTLX / PROX) Title: Asset Recovery Analyst Reports To: Manager, Mileage and Scrap FLSA: Exempt POSITION SUMMARY: The Asset Recovery Analyst is responsible for recovering damage claims for UTLX and PROX-owned railcars, managing mileage activity reported by railroads, and overseeing the dismantling of rail assets. This role serves as a critical liaison among railroads, third-party vendors, repair shops, and internal teams. The position significantly contributes to cost recovery and process optimization efforts across the organization. Success in this role requires the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence both internal and external stakeholders without direct authority, ensuring timely resolution of issues and alignment with key business objectives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Lead damage recovery efforts from railroads, managing over $15 million in annual counter-billing. Serve as the primary owner of the Railinc DDCT incident process and main contact for internal and external stakeholders in railroad damage resolution. Manage the end-of-life asset dismantling process, overseeing projects valued at over $10 million annually. Analyze and report on excess mileage and equalization estimates, identifying trends and cost drivers. Advise lessees and customer-facing teams on mileage disputes, damage claims, and scrap car status. Lead process and vendor optimization initiatives to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency. Prepare and deliver data-driven reports and insights to support strategic decision-making. Audit, dispute, and resolve railroad freight billing discrepancies SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS: Effective problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset. Advanced analytical and data interpretation abilities. High attention to detail; able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively. Collaborates well in cross-functional teams; shares knowledge and supports team goals. Strong communicator, both written and verbal. Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills. Self-driven and results-oriented; independently manages priorities and learning. Adaptable and quick to learn new systems, processes, and technologies. Ability to travel up to 10%. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Familiarity with AAR (Association of American Railroads) billing rules and regulations. Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies. Experience in the railroad, transportation, logistics or insurance industries. Experience with analytics tools (PowerBI, Tableau, SAP) Bachelor’s Degree required. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in transportation, asset management, or related operational analytics roles.
