We’re seeking versatile individuals for a dynamic position within our Natural Areas team. As part of this role, you’ll take on the responsibilities of both a Labourer and Equipment Operator, working across the city to ensure these vital areas remain clean and safe for everyone.The primary functions of this role will be to assist the City of Edmonton’s Encampment Cleanup team by handling sanitation tasks and removing abandoned encampment debris. Depending on weather conditions and workload, you may also contribute to the City’s Snow and Ice Removal program, ensuring safe and accessible roads and walkways.

What will you do?
Receive notice of area ready for cleaning from partner agency (Park Rangers, EPS, internal Inspector notifications)
Assess the site for visual hazards and ensuring access & egress is identified, slope and footling issues to be assessed and monitored on ongoing basis
Ensure all appropriate PPE is used to begin the clean-up process
Identify and sort any hazardous materials (sharps, weapons, propane tanks etc.) and ensure the appropriate hazardous disposal procedures are followed
Ensure the sites are clean and returned to natural form
Follow Enviso processes to ensure that materials are handled and disposed in accordance with regulations
Liaise with Rangers on timing of camp clean ups and any anomalies that are discovered
Complete all documentation within the Field Maps app and document all associated photos that are required
Work as part of a team being aware of everyone’s physical and mental wellbeing while performing this role
Apply sand (or other traction materials) to trails, park sidewalks & parking lots either by hand or with equipment
Collect refuse along trails utilizing various modes of transportation (Gator, truck, Toolcat)
Vegetation management (i.e., sightline pruning)
Operates light delivery vehicles transporting materials and supplies
Load and unload materials from trucks
Performs heavy manual work with the use of hand tools including but not limited to the following: ice chipper, snow shovel, picker, etc.
General Housekeeping duties on yard sites
Other related duties as required
Completion of Grade 10
Experience working with vulnerable populations
Experience working with and disposing of hazardous material
Standard First Aid Certification
Assets:
Experience or City of Edmonton trained in operating Toolcat and/or Gator
Experience with Google Suite and ARCGIS Field Maps and QuickCaptureApp
Relevant experience working in Natural Areas Encampment Cleanup Operations

Able to operate assigned equipment in a safe manner
Ability to detect minor defects in equipment used
Ability to understand and execute oral instructions
Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform the work of the class

Conditions of Employment:
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s Code of Conduct and Respectful Workplace Policies is a requirement of the position
Compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as being fit-tested for a respirator, steel-toed boots and hard hat is a requirement of this position
Work Environment:
24 /7 coverage, including weekends and night shifts may be required

Salary Range: $23.416 - $33.208 (Hourly)
