We offer a collaborative and dynamic workplace where our values of Trustworthy, Transparent, Respectful, and Collaborative guide our conduct and contribute to a healthy culture.Job DescriptionCounty of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Services – People First.Regional Fire Services is designed to deliver the best possible fire protection and safety service in order to avoid loss of life and property through prevention, preparedness and response.Supported by Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA), the Regional FireSmart Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating FireSmart initiatives within the partner communities (City of Grande Prairie, Town of Wembley, Town of Beaverlodge and Town of Sexsmith) to reduce wildfire risk and promote wildfire resiliency. This position works collaboratively with local governments, Indigenous communities, fire departments, landowners, and various stakeholders to build awareness, support education, and deliver community-based wildfire mitigation projects in alignment with FireSmart Canada’s principles and guidelines and Alberta Community Wildfire Risk Management Cycle.Job Duties and Tasks:Develop and oversee the implementation of community-based FireSmart initiatives and strategic wildfire mitigation plans.Coordinate FireSmart Community Assessments and Wildfire Preparedness Guides.Apply for and manage FireSmart funding and grants.Deliver FireSmart awareness sessions and workshops to residents, community groups, and schools.Develop educational materials and promote FireSmart principles through events, media, and social platforms.Act as the primary contact for FireSmart information in the community.Ensure all activities align with Alberta FireSmart guidelines and environmental regulations.Prepare detailed reports for funders and stakeholders, including financial tracking and impact analysis.Participate in relevant training and keep up-to-date on FireSmart science and practices.QualificationsPost-secondary education in Emergency Management, Forestry, Environmental Sciences, Public Administration, or a related field is considered an asset.Minimum of 2 years of experience in wildfire mitigation, emergency planning, or community outreach.Completion of recognized FireSmart training (e.g., FireSmart 101, Local FireSmart Representative Workshop) is an asset.Proven ability to manage complex projects demonstrated through successful planning, execution and delivery of initiatives.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable with GIS and mapping tools (asset).Valid Class 5 driver’s license.Additional InformationTerm Length: This is a 2-year contract position, from the date of hire, with a possibility of extension.What We Offer: The County of Grande Prairie provides a competitive compensation package, including some benefits and vacation.
