What will you be doing? As an Inclusion Support Worker you will assist with supporting and integrating participants with disabilities 4 – 18 years of age, in our recreation programs. You will provide participants with the opportunity to build friendships and learn new skills. This position reports to the Recreation Coordinator. Major Job Responsibilities What will you be responsible for? Providing one-to-one or two-to-one support to participants with exceptionalities, ensuring that activities are safe, fun and appropriate Utilizing the “All About Me” participant profile provided by the Inclusion Coordinator to best meet the individual needs and adapt daily activities to ensure meaningful participation Assisting with tasks of behaviour management, personal care including; changing, toileting and feeding as required Following all established departmental safety standards and practices and Employee Code of Conduct Understanding of our standard operating procedures, and supporting the Inclusion Coordinator in applying the established rules and guidelines that oversees the safety and conduct of participants Communicating with parents/guardians. Sharing reminders, successes and challenges Reporting all accidents, incidents, concerns or site damage to the Recreation Coordinator, ensuring all appropriate forms are completed Wearing all required Personal Protective Equipment as it relates to Occupational Health and Safety Act, and adhering to all established departmental safety standards and practices Performing all other duties as assigned Education & Experience What will we need from you? Ability to work part time hours for 6 -12 week sessions, up to 5 - 20 hours per week. Hours vary based on program registrations. Programs typically run in the evenings between 4:30 pm -8:00 pm and on weekends between 9:00am - 4:00 pm. Attendance at paid orientation and training session prior to working What skills and experience are we looking for? Minimum of 16 years of age Minimum two (2) years of experience working in a children’s recreation environment Minimum one (1) year of experience working with persons with disabilities Knowledge of program adaptations and behaviour modification techniques Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) required Behaviour Management Systems Training (BMS) or equivalent is an asset Standard First Aid and CPR C certification required Able to perform all activities including but not limited to: lifting a minimum of 50 pounds Able to swim and comfortable with supporting participants in the pool during programs that include a swimming component Under the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to submit a Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening upon employment Please visit https://www.haltonpolice.ca/en/services-and-reporting/record-checks.aspx#Vulnerable-Sector-Check- for more information Want to apply?
