The Amazon DataNexus Builder Tools team is seeking a Software Development
Manager to lead a team of engineers focused on building tools that help Amazon
developers identify, diagnose, and resolve performance bottlenecks in complex
distributed systems.
DataNexus is a foundational compute platform that powers Amazon’s eCommerce
infrastructure. Whether customers are shopping online, streaming Prime Video,
using Alexa, or relying on Kindle or Fulfillment services, their requests are
served by the Datapath platform, a highly available backend system that runs
critical business logic millions of times per second in real time.
As a Software Development Manager in the Builder Tools team, you will own the
development of advanced observability and performance optimization tools. These
include custom profilers, experimentation platforms, benchmarking systems, and
testing frameworks that help engineers across Amazon build more efficient and
reliable services. You will work closely with senior engineers, technical
leaders, and partner teams to shape the technical strategy, drive high-impact
projects, and raise the engineering bar.
Key job responsibilities
A Software Development Manager at DataNexus Builder Tools leads a team building
tools that identify, diagnose, and optimize performance bottlenecks in complex
distributed systems. Your team will develop solutions that analyze performance
issues through logs, source code, profiling data, and system metrics to enable
accurate root cause analysis and validate optimizations through experiments and
benchmarks.
You will manage project delivery, guide technical direction, and grow a
high-performing team. You’ll work closely with partner teams to ensure our tools
address the most impactful performance challenges across Amazon.
Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, clear communication,
and the ability to mentor engineers working in Java-based systems. Familiarity
with profiling tools such as JFR, JStack, or JMeter and experience with
observability and distributed systems is a plus.
At DataNexus Builder Tools, you will lead efforts to improve system efficiency

Basic Qualifications: - 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns,
reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 4+ years of engineering team management experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full
software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards,
code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing,
certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams Preferred
Qualifications: - Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams,
and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product
features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of
Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective,
product software engineers

The base salary for this position ranges from $171,400/year up to $286,200/year.
Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related
knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of
compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in
addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
