As part of the larger Sectors and International Advisory team (SIA), the D&S Lead is accountable for a diverse portfolio of partner and ecosystem relationships as well as developing the strategy and tactics to achieve EDC’s targets.
We are looking for an experienced candidate to join our team to deliver on our mandate of supporting the growth of Canadian companies in the sector. The successful candidate will leverage their extensive professional network, business development skills and industry expertise to bridge the gap between industry, government, and the financial sector.
The D&S Lead will focus on managing key external relationships and providing market intelligence and expert insight to groups internally, while representing EDC at various events and providing oversight to specific internal team functions. The successful candidate will have experience with procurement practices and an acumen to represent EDC’s solutions and operations to an existing network of export and defence related players domestically and internationally.
Leveraging this experience, the candidate will be a go-to resource to raise EDC’s internal awareness of the sector and provide insights and analysis to feed into EDC’s strategic planning efforts.
Targeted sector:
D&S Sector: The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the various defence sub-sectors and dual-use technologies, demonstrate judgment to navigate policy, public perception, and responsible business conduct regrading relevant ESG issues, and identify international procurement trends that Canadian companies must navigate in this space.
What you will be doing:
Develop a network within the Canadian defence ecosystem and represent the organization at sector events, professional forums, and committees.
Obtain market intelligence and enhance the visibility and reputation of the organization, its products, and its services.
Identify and manage external stakeholders up to executive level, uncovering their needs/issues/concerns and then lead and coordinate stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions.
As a self-starter, organize & lead EDC’s internal stakeholders to increase the level of market knowledge and awareness of D&S across teams.
Map and maintain a comprehensive view of the D&S ecosystem in Canada including subsectors of growth in dual-use technologies and international ecosystems that represent opportunities for Canadian companies.
Research and develop strategies for executive consumption to build consensus and ensure that all levels of the organization are well-briefed on trends and challenges facing the sector.
Leveraging experience with defence procurement, innovation or industrial policy, demonstrate an understanding of export finance tools and capital structuring typical in the sector.
Participate in the initial triaging of opportunities to match customer/partner needs with EDC products and identify the resources who will provide on-going customer management to ensure needs are met for maximum value creation through the client growth cycle.
Support the work done by Relationship Managers and Underwriters across EDC by offering insight into external programs from the ecosystem and provide strategic insight to support their customer engagements.
Develop and implement a relationship management plan and partner orientation for strategic, complex existing partnerships to build key relationships at a national level within the ecosystem partners with a focus on industry, banks, and government.
Work with the Government Relations team to provide sector insights on all matters related to our relationship with government. When engaging, be a champion for EDC but also a leader in ecosystem issues related to data and program design and delivery to achieve Canada’s goals.
Act as a player-coach for Associate level positions in the team which include participation in staffing, onboarding, training, and mentoring. Provide training on defence sector issues to groups across EDC.
Lead and facilitate the exchange of ideas and task collaboration in fluid mid-sized project teams which can be comprised of internal and external players.
Ensure that the customer relationship management system is being used to maximize customer engagement and documentation of key customer activities.
