Job Summary We are currently looking for a Full-time Research Assistant, to support a variety of projects in our BC Primary Health Care Research Network (BC-PHCRN) lab. The person in this role will mainly support a Pandemic pREparedness engaging Primary cARe and Emergency Departments (PREPARED) study to enhance surveillance, improve care and health system efficiency, accelerate biomanufacturing of diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics, and facilitate linkage to clinical trials. This position will be based at different clinics (TBD) in the lower mainland of BC and is a 6-month contract with possible extension. Integrated within a busy, multidisciplinary team, the successful applicant will work closely with research staff, and report to the principal investigator and/or research program manager of study. Organizational Status The Research Assistant reports directly to Drs. Rubee Dev and Sabrina Wong of the BC-PHCRN. The Research Assistant will collaborate with the provincial and national team members, as well as work closely with the lead of the pan-Canadian PREPARED study, Dr. Andrew Pinto. The Research Assistant will also work collaboratively with other research assistants across the provinces to communicate and troubleshoot any issues, and participate in regular teleconferences and face-to-face meetings. Work Performed Assist in planning and implementation of various aspects of the research project Assist in the preparation of study-related documents and reports Support with REB submissions Contact, recruit, screen, and enroll study participants Consent participants in person Swabbing of participants Documentation on databases Assist in maintenance of research activity records by creating weekly reports Ship collected samples Coordinate with other departments and staff involved in the study Assist in conducting literature reviews Perform other tasks and responsibilities as required in support of the unit or department within scope of this position Consequence of Error/Judgement This position requires working effectively within an organizational structure as well as a high degree of self-direction. The research assistant will be required to show judgment and decision-making, which has the potential to impact the reputation of the BC-PHCRN Lab, and the opportunity for future research development. The direction of the research initiatives will be discussed at regular meetings with Drs. Dev and Wong and the project team. Regular reporting will also be required to the project team and stakeholder groups as defined by the research project component. The exercise of poor judgment and lack of consultation with supervisors could adversely affect the viability and validity of the research project or program. It may lead to the suspension of studies. Continued adverse effects on the lab's research projects could negatively affect the ability of the lab to obtain funding for future research projects. This position requires employees to work under strict confidentiality requirements; internal procedures and policies to protect personal information must be followed and adherence to these requirements will be regularly reviewed by the employer.
