Job Overview:
Responsible for assisting with the product development & samples creation and providing support in the facilitation of development strategies on behalf of their organization. This position will work to develop an all-round understanding of the entire life cycle of the product development process once an item has been selected from samples to commercialization.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct bench work in the test kitchen along channel organized lines, assisting Product Developers in daily tasks of baking prototypes, preparing sample requests and developing channel specified items
Conduct Sensory Evaluation & Shelf Life studies for their assigned PD & product categories collating & distributing all data
Assist the Product Developer in assessing need for and or/ ordering new ingredients for samples or plant trials. Opens and closes Purchase Orders
Assists on plant trials under direct guidance of Product Developer, collecting samples, data and recording processes
Assist with product development / Project Management activities to ensure timely completion and best practices to optimize product development projects.
Identify areas of improvements and concerns and recommend improvements by providing guidance in product upgrades to meet changing business demands
Observe all SQF and HACCP policies
Maintain consistency and accuracy of information flow between Development and Marketing teams
Learn computer systems in order to complete TVC’s, Shelf Life Studies, Purchase Orders, plant trial records
The Recipe for Success:
Completion of university degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Culinary Mgmt, Bakery Arts or Pastry Chef
Minimum 1-year experience in the food industry
Minimum 1-year experience as a cake decorator, baker, pâtissier, or similar
Chefs of Bakers Red Seal Certificate or equivalent
Excellent analytical abilities, e.g. setting priorities, meeting deadlines
Ability to pipe and perform cake decorating
Work collaboratively with colleagues and interact with vendors and other stakeholders
Excellent organizational and time management skill
Able to multi-task, work effectively with minimal supervision, and meet multiple deadlines
Creative mindset with an understanding of consumer preferences and trends
Proficient in computer literacy e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
