Role: Liability Claims Adjuster
Status: Full-Time, Regular

Reports to: Senior Legal Counsel
Location: Markham
Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Liability Claims Adjuster is to investigate, defend and/or settle property damage liability claims from customers and subrogated insurers. You will also prepare Small Claims Court legal documents, represent the company at small claims pre-trials, and act as a witness at Superior Court examinations for discovery and Small Claims Court trials.
Key Responsibilities:
Receiving and reviewing incoming calls and emails from customers
Communicating with customers by phone and email to arrange for remediation of property damage
Working with emergency contractors to provide emergency property remediation services to customers and to obtain repair estimates
Work with company field team to investigate claims, including by gathering and preserving evidence
Where appropriate, communicating with customers to settle property damage claims
Receiving and reviewing Small Claims Court proceedings from subrogated insurers for property damage claims, including preparing Defences
Communicating with subrogated insurer adjusters and legal counsel to investigate and, where appropriate, settle Small Claims Court proceedings
Communicating with potentially liable third-parties to seek indemnification
Working with the company’s legal team on assessing liability
Documenting investigations steps
Assessing damages, including by determination of actual cash value of claims submitted
Assisting Claims Manager with escalated customer complaints
Qualifications:
Excellent customer service orientation and strong communications skills
Strong investigation and negotiating skills
Sound oral and written advocacy skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Computer skills: strong ability with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) essential
Knowledge of the insurance estimating system; Xactimate is preferred
Understanding of the insurance property damage subrogation process
Knowledge with or experience in Small Claims Court an asset
Paralegal license is an asset
