Job Description
Under the supervision of the Director of Product Strategy, the Senior Jig and Fixture Design Engineer will be working in a fast paced and dynamic environment. He will be responsible for designing jigs and fixtures to be used in welding (manual and robotic), assembly and inspection for a variety of products. The Senior Jig and Fixture Design Engineer will be accountable to our Design Manager, Method Specialist and Welding Engineer. He will be responsible for jig and fixture concept generation, component selection, cost validation, design for manufacturability, drawing creation, as well as routing release and will also support the Manufacturing and Quality teams during the building and validation their jigs and fixtures.
Role and responsibilities
Ensure jigs / fixtures are designed and built to meet product specifications and tolerancing.
Create jig and fixture designs in SolidWorks
Run FEA analysis on jigs to validate designs
Prepare manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
Selecting components and materials to meet the design requirements.
Prepare bills of materials.
Work with internal stakeholders to review and improve designs.
Support Production to troubleshoot assembly and fabrication problems.
Participate in team brainstorming sessions.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
Member of the OIQ
A minimum of 10 years of experience designing welding jigs / fixtures.
Proficient with SolidWorks
Deep knowledge of welding practices and design compensation for welded assemblies
Able to run FEA analysis to validate jig / fixture design loads and deformation
Technical aptitude with hands-on approach to engineering.
Knowledge of engineering and manufacturing practices.
Experience with tubular and sheet metal welded assemblies is essential.
Understanding of Geometric Tolerancing & Dimensioning (GD&T).
Detailed oriented and strong organizational skills.
Excellent time management skills, able to manage competing priorities.
Master the French language and the English (customers, suppliers and / or employees from the United States / CMP NY).
