What you’ll do The Carrier Planner role is focused on managing the transportation plan for shipments to and from customers nationwide, including CTR (Canadian Tire Retail) stores, vendors, distribution centers, third party hubs, and rail terminals. Working within a very fast paced and dynamic environment, the Carrier Planner will tender loads to be executed by third party carriers, as well as Canadian Tire’s own fleet, within Ontario, Quebec and Alberta. Acting as subject matter experts, the Carrier Planner will manage key performance indicators such as cost, capacity, on time performance and carrier load forecast within the context of supporting the achievement of Transportation goals. Work with complex systems and applications to tender work assignments, and update transportation activities being executed across Canada balancing cost and service Provide regular feedback on the quality of the transportation plan, and suggest improvements Establish and maintain good working relationship with third party carriers while ensuring desired service is provided at lowest cost Analyze key performance indicators to identify areas of concern, and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to rectify them Proactively work with stakeholders to ensure carrier capacity is available to support the operational demand for the successful execution of all shipments including inbound, outbound, Dealer returns and ad-hoc requests Provide feedback to the development of delivery template based on road, rail service offering and barge operations Maintain current knowledge of Canadian transportation acts and regulations, including transportation of dangerous goods What you bring Post-Secondary education in Business, Logistics or Engineering Transportation industry experience A general understanding of the Highway Traffic Act; Transportation of Dangerous Goods Good knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS) for example, JDA or Oracle Advanced Microsoft Excel (e.g. Macros, Pivot Tables) and Access (e.g. Macros, Queries, Reporting) skills Exceptional attention to detail Must excel in a team environment, comfortable making objective decisions on the fly Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast paced, challenging environment with a great deal of autonomy Ability to work with complex and evolving systems and extensive and varied data About Us Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited (“CTC”) is one of Canada’s most admired and trusted companies.
