Reporting to the Manager of Health Economic Evaluation in the Health Technology Assessment Program (Clinical Institutes & Quality Programs) and working with the health technology assessment team, the Health Economist will conduct economic literature reviews, cost-effectiveness analyses and budget impact analyses to support the development of health technology assessments that inform the funding of health technologies in Ontario. Areas of responsibility include, reviewing the published economic literature, developing de novo health economic models, writing reports and presenting findings to advisory committees, which make recommendations and influence policy. Here is what you will be doing: Act as the primary health economist to conduct cost-effectiveness and budget impact analyses for new health technologies. Systematically review and critically evaluate economic literature. Build, use, and maintain a variety of health economic and decision-support models, decision analytic techniques, and health outcome methodologies to support value-for-money decision-making. Assist in developing funding recommendations for health technologies by considering evidence of clinical benefit, value for money, societal impact, ethical considerations, and patient-centeredness. Provide expertise in health economics, financial and funding modeling, and consultative advice to support health system funding decisions, planning, allocation, priorities, and processes. Identify potential risks to project timelines and deliverables, escalating issues to the team and Manager for resolution. Maintain data and records related to economic analyses and model development. Independently prepare, write, and present findings from economic analyses. Acquire and apply knowledge of government priorities, directions, and relevant legislation related to the healthcare system. Develop and manage relationships with internal and external partners, including vice presidents, directors, managers, and team members, to ensure project deliverables are met. Collaborate effectively with clinical epidemiologists, patient engagement analysts, project managers, and coordinators to meet project timelines. Engage with stakeholders to gather information necessary to complete value-for-money analyses. Work with the Manager, branch, and agency colleagues to apply health economic analyses and models to policy development and funding decisions, contributing to overall health economic capacity within Ontario Health. Here is what you will need to be successful: Education and Experience Master’s degree in health economics or health technology assessment is required PhD in health economics or health technology assessment is preferred 3-5 years of relevant professional experience or combination of experience including PhD in health economics or related field Solid understanding in health economic concepts, decision modelling, health technology assessment and/or epidemiology Expertise in health economics, financial and funding modeling; and experience in Independently preparing, writing, and presenting findings from economic analyses Experience in conducting systematic literature review, cost-effectiveness analyses and/or budget impact analyses Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of the Canadian health care system Ability to provide critical appraisal and quality assurance on economic models Ability to conduct statistical analysis to identify and analyze relevant data sets, manipulate data, prepare reports Ability to use TreeAge or Excel for health economic modelling Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent presentation skills Location: Ontario Health supports a hybrid work environment and has office locations across the province.
