We are seeking a talented and experienced Matte Painting Supervisor to join our
dynamic Visual Effects team. The ideal candidate will have a strong artistic
vision and technical expertise to lead the matte painting department in creating
stunning and photorealistic environments. You will work closely with the VFX
Supervisor, Art Director, and other department leads to ensure the seamless
integration of both 2D and 3D matte paintings into the overall visual effects
pipeline.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the matte painting team, fostering artistic growth and
technical development in both 2D and 2.5D [http://2.5D] environments
- Supervise the creation of high-quality matte paintings and digital
environments for feature films, television, and other media
- Collaborate with the VFX Supervisor and Art Director to establish the visual
style and quality standards for matte paintings, ensuring consistency across
2D and 3D work
- Ensure the seamless integration of matte paintings with live-action footage
and CG elements
- Develop and maintain efficient workflows and best practices for the matte
painting department, incorporating both 2D and 3D techniques
- Provide creative and technical solutions to challenges in the production
pipeline
- Review and provide constructive feedback on matte paintings to ensure
artistic and technical excellence
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to keep the
department at the forefront of innovation
Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years of experience in visual effects, with a strong background in
matte painting, including both 2D and 2.5D work
- Proven leadership experience managing teams or departments in a fast-paced
production environment
- Expert-level proficiency in industry-standard software (e.g., Adobe
Photoshop, Nuke, Maya) for both 2D and 2.5D matte painting
- Strong understanding of perspective, lighting, and color theory
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage complex projects
and team needs simultaneously
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative and
team-oriented mindset
- Experience developing and maintaining workflows in coordination with pipeline
and technical teams
- Experience in high-end feature film or episodic TV productions (preferred)
- Background in DMP supervision or departmental leadership (preferred)
- Familiarity with 3D modeling and rendering software (e.g., Houdini, 3ds Max)
- Knowledge of scripting (Python, MEL) for pipeline tools and automation a plus
- Experience in generative workflows a plus

$150,000 - $170,000 a year
This salary range is specific to applicants applying to our position in
Vancouver, BC. To determine your base salary, we consider your qualifications,
skills, and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary
outside of this range and will also be dependent on your location.
