POSITION SUMMARY: Join New Flyer’s Reliability, Simulation & Testing team as a New Product Development Technician with a welding focus. In this hands-on role, you’ll construct, test, and refine prototype components for innovative bus systems. Your welding expertise and mechanical skills will help shape the future of transit technology in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Construct and weld prototype components based on engineering drawings and verbal instructions
Fabricate, install, and assemble mechanical and structural parts using various welding techniques
Provide technical feedback on designs, drawings, and prototype functionality
Interpret and navigate engineering drawings, schematics, and bills of materials (BOMs)
Operate fabrication tools, hand and power tools, and heavy equipment such as forklifts or buses
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to share insights and transfer knowledge
Support engineering test setups, troubleshooting, and design iterations
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
Participate in team meetings and testing reviews
Perform routine equipment maintenance and assist in shop upkeep
Learn and support other tasks in the NPD shop as needed to ensure team flexibility
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
3–5 years of hands-on mechanical and/or welding experience in a shop or industrial setting
Strong welding skills; certification is an asset
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and BOMs
Skilled in using fabrication tools, test equipment, and mechanical systems
Excellent troubleshooting and mechanical diagnostic abilities
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or collaboratively
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment
Class 2 driver’s license is an asset
Experience in a manufacturing or prototyping environment is highly valued
