PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
CPKC’s internal actuarial team oversees the company’s defined benefit pension and other post-retirement benefit plans across Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, including the Canadian pension plan – one of the oldest and largest corporate plans in the country with over $14 billion in assets. As part of CPKC’s broader pension team, which was recently recognized with a 2025 CEO Award for Excellence, the actuarial team provides strategic guidance to executive leadership and ensures benefit security for over 30,000 plan members. Supporting the actuarial team across its broad range of core functions and special projects, the Actuarial Analyst will analyze complex data, prepare financial reports and communicate actuarial insights to stakeholders. This full-time, permanent role is based at CPKC’s global head office in Calgary, Alberta, and reports to the Advisor Pension Plan Management.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Compile and validate data for actuarial valuations
Prepare financial statements for pension and other post-retirement benefit plans
Develop actuarial assumptions and conduct experience studies
Document internal controls for Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) compliance
Support asset-liability studies, plan design reviews and other special projects
Perform additional duties as needed
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, finance, mathematics or other relevant field
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience; defined benefit pension experience strongly preferred
Excellent analytical, financial modelling and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
