Job Description and Responsibilities Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources, the Disability Support Specialist (Temporary) is accountable for managing, developing and/or enhancing programs related to disability management (DM) for our Interpro Pipe & Steel Alberta facilities. This position provides support, leadership, and direction to the administration of these programs and ensures both legislative compliance and optimization of outcomes. The incumbent will work closely with the human resources teams, managers, employees, third party stakeholders (Medical, WCB) and unions in support of the case management process. This is a temporary position for approximately sixteen months. Provide subject matter expertise in Disability Management Provide leadership and guidance to management and employees to ensure timely and effective case management Provide consultation and decision making on complex claims and escalate inquiries, as needed to the Manager Human Resources Follows best practice and legislative obligations with respect to the development of workplace accommodation Initiate and work with departments in developing systems and procedures to facilitate the early and safe return to work of employees in receipt of WCB, short-term disability, and long-term disability benefits Track claims experience, define trends, and assist in developing recommendations for proactive strategies to support employee wellness and/or changes to benefit plans, policies, and practices Ensure benefit coverage follows collective agreements and legislative requirements Job Requirements Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation; an asset University graduate or equivalent in a related field such as Human Resources, Rehabilitation Counselling, Kinesiology, Nursing, Health Sciences or Social Sciences Disability Management Designation (Certified Disability Management Professional, Certified Return to Work Coordinator) or equivalent training and/or experience Demonstrated experience in claims management 2-5 years’ experience in a related field such as disability/WCB management, health & safety, human resources, or occupational health Experience with complex claims management in a unionized environment In-depth knowledge of relevant provincial legislation including Workers Compensation Act, Human Rights, and Accessibility legislation Demonstrated effective case management skills requiring active involvement and advanced strategies for managing complex cases Attention to detail, excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Our total compensation package includes amazing benefits!
