The Opportunity:
Barminco Mine Services Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for a Scoop Operator to join our team underground at the Hemlo Operations near Marathon, Ontario.
This position works 14-days on / 14-days off
Shifts are days and nights.
It is a "drive in/drive out" or “fly in/fly out” position if you reside outside the Marathon, Ontario region.
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for their safety and the safety of their co-workers while operating loading units underground.
More specifically, our Scoop Operator will:
Safely operate large mobile equipment such Sandvik 517’s, and other machinery as required
Muck development headings and stockpiles (manual and remote), and load hal trucks with ore or waste
Identify unsafe conditions in underground headings
Muck sumps and maintain roadways as required
Coordinate haulage trucks and traffic within the working area to ensure safe and efficient movement
Maintain accurate daily plods
Be open to learning new techniques and willing to share knowledge and skills with coworkers
Comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions to perform duties safely and efficiently
Skills and Experience:
Minimum high school diploma or equivalency
Demonstrated commitment to working safely while ensuring the safety of others
Underground Common Core and specialty modules
Minimum 8 years’ experience working underground in a production/development role
Previous experience mucking with Atlas Copco, Sandvik and/or Cat loading units is an asset
Strong organizational, planning and time management skills
Must have good radio etiquette and strong communications skills
Be flexible and willing to assist with a variety of tasks as required
Ability to learn new tasks quickly
Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment
Physical Demands
Frequently exposed to underground mining conditions including reduced lighting, high humidity, noise, vibration, and uneven terrain
Climb ladders, stairs, and access mobile equipment such as scoop trams and haul trucks
Able to perform both fine motor tasks (e.g., using controls, completing reports, handling small components) and gross motor tasks (e.g., operating heavy machinery, moving hoses and pumps) with both hands
