The AHP team at Pulse is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking Senior Specialist Speech and Language Therapist who wants to develop their career, skills, and knowledge in a specialist educational setting from Reception to the end of Key Stage 2. You will work within a well-resourced department with a small but complex caseload (10-12 children), where intensive therapy with pupils is encouraged.
Your main responsibilities as a Speech and Language Therapist:
You will assess, plan, and deliver individualized intervention programmes. You will work with class groups, smaller groups, and individual children. You will support SLT colleagues to develop their skills through line management of Speech and Language Therapists or Speech and Language Therapy Assistants. You will have responsibility for leading school projects and areas of development. You will be involved in training and outreach. You will attend and contribute to staff meetings and inset. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to enable access to the National Curriculum at appropriate key stages through planning, delivery, support, and contributions to behaviour plans. You will contribute to the development and maintenance of effective joint working practices between various staff groups. You will contribute to developing and sustaining an appropriate communication environment within the school or service. You will contribute to the life and working practices, environment, and ethos of the school/service, such as lunchtime supervision and school trips. You will assist with hosting visitors when required. You will contribute to the whole school development plan. You will mentor colleagues from other professional groups new to the school. You will have day-to-day responsibility for the management of SLTs/SLT assistants. You will supervise, monitor, and appraise SLTs/SLT assistants. You will contribute to local, organisational, and national audit and quality measurements. You will contribute to the development of effective collaborative working practice.
What we are looking for in a Speech and Language Therapist:
Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and HCPC
Extensive post-qualification experience of working with complex caseloads
Proven experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
Experience of working in an educational setting
Devising, implementing, and monitoring development plans or projects
Knowledge of current developments in education
Knowledge of AAC
Understanding/knowledge of the National Curriculum and the impact of Language Disorders on this
Good organisational skills
Writing reports to a high standard
An imaginative and intellectually rigorous approach to therapy planning
Relevant specialist clinical knowledge and the capacity to advise staff on a range of clinical areas
The ability to work with individuals and groups of children with complex SLT needs from 3 to 11 years
Dynamic, creative, and flexible approach to tasks and problem-solving
Knowledge of Sign Supported English / Makaton
Ability to manage and motivate staff and internal and external stakeholders and to work effectively as part of more than one team
A flexible approach to work
Excellent written and oral communication skills to a range of audiences, colleagues, parents, and other professionals
A desire to continue the development of professional skills
