What we offer
As a Construction Cost Manager, you’ll sit at the critical intersection of
budgeting, analytics, and vendor management, guiding Mattamy through a pivotal
transformation in how we manage construction costs. In today’s shifting economic
landscape, your work will help redefine our cost model – driving precision,
discipline, and value at every stage of the construction lifecycle. This role
isn't just about managing numbers, it’s about influencing strategy, challenging
the status quo, and delivering actionable insight to both the field and the
executive team.
You'll be responsible for maintaining end-to-end visibility into soft costs,
forecasting spend, leading tendering for indirect work, and championing
value-driven construction solutions. You’ll bridge operations and finance,
providing timely, accurate insights that inform decisions and enable proactive
intervention.
What you’ll do
Budget Oversight & Financial Control
- Develop, monitor, and maintain budgets across all construction phases.
- Prepare go-to-sale indirect cost budgets.
- Provide ongoing cost tracking and forecasting, ensuring visibility into
actuals, commitments, and anticipated variances.
- Support five-year financial planning by forecasting indirect costs for future
land releases.
- Identify and monitor cost-related risks and opportunities across active and
upcoming projects.
- Recommend corrective action plans or contingency strategies when financial
risks are identified.
Cost Analysis, Value Engineering & Process Innovation
- Investigate, maintain, and benchmark soft cost unit rates based on awarded
contracts and supplier performance.
- Perform proactive cost comparisons and support rebidding or scope refinement
efforts.
- Recommend and implement value-engineered solutions that reduce spend without
compromising quality.
- Develop and communicate value-driven construction techniques and procedural
innovations.
Procurement & Vendor Oversight
- Lead the bid and tender process for all soft cost scopes, ensuring
competitive pricing and scope clarity.
- Validate scope alignment during contract negotiation and provide support
during trade partner onboarding.
- Support cross-functional collaboration between Construction, Procurement, and
Finance to ensure unified cost strategies.
Team Leadership & Development
- Provide leadership to the Construction Cost Analyst through coaching,
performance management, and skills development.
- Foster a culture of discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement
within the cost control function.
What you bring
- 5+ years in a cost-focused role within construction project management,
procurement, or financial controls.
- Deep understanding of construction cost structures and how to drive value
within them.
- Comfort navigating between the field and the boardroom, with influence at all
levels.
- Expertise in Excel, ERP systems, and forecasting tools, and the judgment to
act on what the data says.
- A performance mindset paired with maturity and tact to lead change
professionally.
- The ability to convey complex financial information clearly and persuasively
to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong leadership skills that promote open communication and teamwork while
maintaining alignment with project budgets, schedules and quality standards.
Bonus points
- Degree in Construction Management, Finance or a related field.
- Experience with JD Edwards, BuildPro.
