Job Summary:
Provide effective leadership to assure the optimum operation of all sanitation and production initiatives in the absence of the Sanitation / Production Supervisor. The Sanitation Team Lead is also responsible for demonstrating and instilling safe workplace habits and food safety procedures amongst staff. Any observable offences to be reported to the Sanitation Supervisor.
Job Duties:
Assist the Sanitation Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day functionality of the sanitation department alongside production duties as needed
Responsible for aspects of employee performance, safety, quality, and documentation
Maintain task schedules and monitor employee hours required for completion of job assignments
Responsible for keeping and following a Master Sanitation Schedule of items that require daily and periodic attention
Interpret company policies to employees and enforce food safety and health and safety regulations
Direct and help train sanitation staff in sanitary and pest-control procedures and required production procedures
Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals
Inspect cleanliness of surfaces with proper swabs and take adequate corrective actions
Inspect equipment before and after both production and sanitation to assure the equipment is in proper working condition
Work closely with Sanitation Supervisor to achieve the desired level of sanitation in order to prevent direct contamination or alteration of product, packaging material, contact and non-contact surfaces
Work closely with the Production department to address any related issues that arise or that would affect the production of healthy and sanitary products
Manage the supply of necessary chemicals, supplies and equipment to perform all sanitation tasks as required
Assure all occupational health and safety guidelines are adhered to and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn by all staff
Inspecting premises for unsanitary practices and conditions
Assure proper records of activities are being taken
Assure the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the plant which includes all areas (distribution, production, trucking and waste removal areas)
Promote a safe work environment. Report any unsafe conditions to your immediate supervisor
Production, quality control verification, and forklift use as needed
Education & Experience:
Previous supervisory experience is required (1-2 years)
Previous work experience in sanitation (2-3 years) is required
Previous work experience in a production/packaging environment considered an asset
Food industry experience considered an asset
High School Diploma required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to delegate tasks to subordinates
Ability to take charge
Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) desired
Knowledge of Safe Quality Food (SQF) desired
Knowledge of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) desired
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a cold, fast paced and wet environment. Mental stress and bodily fatigue is relative to meeting tight and time sensitive deadlines, assuring competition of tasks prior to the start of daily production and sanitation. Heavy lifting, prolonged standing and climbing is involved. The Sanitation Lead Hand works evenings on a continental rotation basis.
