Sales Manager (Travel Trade)

The Opportunity
The Sales Manager shares the accountability for the implementation of the Conferences Sales plan through research, qualification, and pursuit of conference and travel trade business. The position will be responsible for achieving a set portion of the overall conferences rooming and revenue objectives through development and implementation of a tactical sales plan, including actively prospecting new business, and developing key client accounts.
Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to Managing Director, Conference Sales, below are some key accountabilities:
Put forth effort, through analysis and qualification skills, to achieve and maintain budgeted sales and profit goals for group sales and food & beverage.
Project a positive image of Banff Centre to colleagues, guests, clients, and the community at all times.
Practice positive and effective communication with colleagues and clients at all levels of the organization to exceed client’s needs and resolve client complaints.
Coordinate details associated with any group booking complete with executed contract and deposit.
To effectively critique and evaluate potential business as it relates to its specific profit potential to Banff Centre i.e., peak season demand, valley or need periods, arrival/departure patterns.
Actively manage all sales opportunities by pursuing leads, prospecting, follow up and closely monitoring the sales pipeline at all times.
Accurately forecast group pick-up in an effort to minimize slippage thus maximizing Banff Centre sales and profit dollars.
Maximize revenue per group room night by up selling and creative planning.
Solicit and prospect assigned markets, when and where applicable as assigned by the Managing Director, Conferences
Adhere to department Standard Operating Procedures to ensure quality output.
Research, qualification and pursuit of sales prospects, in the assigned market portfolio
From time to time the assigned market portfolios may be altered, expanded and changed as required.
Arrange meetings and sales presentations to decision-makers.
Lead and participate in site inspections, BDT’s, client events and sales missions both in market and on campus.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
Completion of post-secondary education equivalent to college diploma in business, hospitality management or a related discipline
A minimum of 5 years work experience in hospitality/group sales. Experience working with a major hospitality brand is considered an asset.
New business development experience is required.
Excels at finding and closing new opportunities, building relationships and is an over-achiever who uses a systematic approach to analyze business opportunities.
Makes sound decisions and can confidently negotiate and problem solve at a high level.
Moves comfortably between strategic conversations and tactical action plans.
Is self-directed with a high level of self-discipline to work from a home office (as required).
Special Requirements
Travel may be required.
This position requires flexibility in schedule, with occasional weekend and evening work needed.
Employment Terms and Benefits
In accordance with the terms of employment governing Management/PSP employees, this is a salaried, fulltime position, subject to a 6-month probationary period.
The salary range for this position is $59,495 - $88,346 based on experience.
Hybrid (3 days in the office, 2 days remote) or remote work environments can be considered.
