Your opportunity:
Robert Gillespie Academic Skills Centre (RGASC) is a hub for academic skills development on the University of Toronto Mississauga campus. The mandate of the RGASC is to support and promote teaching and learning in a range of contexts across the University of Toronto Mississauga. For students, the RGASC is a resource for developing academic skills through individual appointments and group-based initiatives that help students identify and develop the academic skills they need for success in their studies. For instructional staff and faculty, the Centre is a partner in teaching and learning activities. These activities include course andprogram design, implementation and assessment of a given intervention’s impact.
Faculty and staff appointed to the RGASC have a range of specializations, including academic peer support, academic writing instruction, educational development, English language learning, numeracy, scientific literacy, and supplemental instruction. This diversity of experience and expertise enables the Centre to collaborate productively with partners from across the disciplines and campus, who bring with thema varied and diverse set of teaching and learning objectives.
The Outreach and Engagement Coordinator works in a collaborative environment with the RGACS Director, staff and instructors to support and promote Centre programming and workshops. The Outreach and Engagement Coordinator leads outreach activities by connecting with members of the university community to create awareness, build connections and foster collaborations. They will help support the Centre’s communication initiatives bydeveloping promotional and outreach material, designing and delivering presentations and engaging with the Centre’s various stakeholders to understand needs, challenges, and barriers to accessing RGASC programs.
The incumbent will also develop and implement assessment tools, satisfaction surveys, interviews, focus groups and program utilization analysis to identify opportunities for improvement or growth and to inform strategic planning. This includes the development and management of databases to store the Centre’s data.
The Outreach and Engagement Coordinator is also involved in recruiting teaching assistants and instructors, as well as recruiting, training, coaching and supervising RGASC Ambassadors who assist in developing and supporting outreach and engagement initiatives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
- Consulting with instructors, administrators and student groups on the development of tailored programming needs
- Analyzing internal and external trends and recommending educational programming improvements
- Analyzing processes and recommending changes for more efficient coordination of operations
- Developing and implementing marketing plans to promote programs, events and/or initiatives that support strategic objectives
- Coordinating the recruitment of teaching assistants, course instructors, sessional lecturers and/or stipend instructors
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in the area of co-curricular program planning, delivery and evaluation.
- Strong project management/administrative experience with demonstrated decision-making skills, detailed planning and ownership of programs/projects.
- Strong numeric, research, and analytical skills with an ability to analyze data sets, identify trends in the data, develop new metrics and make recommendations based on data-driven insights that will support and inform enrollment, engagement and program strategies.
- Experience conducting post-event evaluation and analysis (i.e. designing, disseminating, collecting surveys and questionnaires).
- Experience developing and delivering high-quality student academic programming, interpreting and applying University and program policies and procedures required.
- Highly resourceful with strong investigative, organizational, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain a broad perspective; strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with all levels of faculty, staff, and senior administration.
- Advance Knowledge of MS Office, learning management systems (i.e. Quercus) and file management systems (i.e. SharePoint).
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively across a large team in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
- Must be able to multi-task, manage, prepare, and deliver multiple programs with sound judgment, calm demeanor and professionalism.
- Experience recruiting and supervising work study or casual staff.
- Experience dealing with a diverse student and instructor population.
