Your opportunity:
Under the supervision of the Accessibility Team Lead (Health), the adaptive technologist provides leadership for students, Accessibility Services staff and members of the campus community in the effective use of adaptive technology to support students’ learning and their completion of academic. The Adaptive Technologist assesses students to identify how adaptive technology might assist them; teaches students to use adaptive technology effectively and problem solve how adaptive technology may assist in solving difficult accommodation issues. The Adaptive Technologist works with campus partners to facilitate the use of academic technology on campus, provides up to date knowledge, and contributes to the educational work of Accessibility Services. The Adaptive Technologist provides daily support for staff in the data management system and liaise with Student Life IT as required.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Determining what assistive technology is best fit for student based on their profile
- Providing detailed information and demonstrating the use of assistive technology tostudents
- Providing detailed information to students who have access to funds to purchase assistive technology
- Researching and recommending alternative approaches and possible accommodation solutions as part of the duty to accommodate
- Advising course instructors and staff on student accommodations issues
- Providing orientation to students on the installation, set-up, customization and features of learning disability specific software/hardware solutions
- Training others on the use of supported technology interfaces
- Delivering presentations to promote programs, opportunities and/or initiatives
Essential Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in a relevant discipline or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum four years demonstrated experience working with individuals with disabilities in using adaptive technology. The incumbent needs to demonstrate current knowledge of field of adaptive technologies including voice recognition; text to voice; applications as well as experience with the installation, troubleshooting student problems and maintenance of adaptive technologies in both Macintosh and Windows environments using adaptive technology to problem solve issues related to learning and completing academic work.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating learning through instruction, small and large group work including the development of training resources.
- An excellent working knowledge of computers and awareness in working with a wide variety of software for learning (e.g. Word, Excel, concept-mapping software, textHelp, Kurzweil, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Work Q and Pear Note).
- An extensive knowledge of the needs of students with disabilities, excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills and broad knowledge of the application and technological aspects of adaptive technology use and development for students with disabilities.
- A high level oforganizational agility, judgment and tact.
- Ability to motivate others, and communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff from a range of academic and administrative levels.
- High degree of initiative and ability to manage innovation effectively.
- Ability to research adaptive technology to problem solve issues and work with staff to implement solutions.
- Act as a campus resource for the use of adaptive technology in classrooms (remote real time captioning).

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 13 -- $43,170. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $55,207.50. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
