The Opportunity
The Child Care Cook is responsible for following menus, purchasing groceries and supplies, and preparing daily meals and snacks for children enrolled in the center. This role includes managing the kitchen in full compliance with Health Department regulations, NB Child Care Licensing Standards, and all other applicable legislation.
The Cook works in collaboration with the Center Supervisor to support the smooth operation of the kitchen and ensure effective coordination with the center’s programs.
Responsibilities
Advance planning of lunch menus and snacks in accordance with the Canada Food Guide; posting of menus for parents and staff;
Complete clean up after each meal (i.e. dishes, counter tops, etc.);
Meets with Health Inspector as required to ensure kitchen and practices are in compliance with required health code;
Regular inventory of kitchen equipment and supplies;
Purchase and pick up all groceries in order to implement the planned menus, in consideration of the Centre’s food budget and in consultation with the Supervisor;
Follow established procedures regarding forwarding of all receipts related to purchases;
Establish and maintain open communication with parents regarding children’s dietary restrictions, allergies, etc.
Assist in the child care programs as required by the Supervisor in order to enhance or maintain child-staff ratios.
Ensure that all daily routines are followed, documented and completed in a timely manner
Skills and Qualifications
High School Diploma is considered an asset.
Experience as a Cook, preferably in a child care setting.
NB Public Health Certification – Food Safety License is an asset
Familiarity with planning and implementing menus in alignment with the Canada Food Guide.
Must have reliable transportation to and from all working locations; ability to drive the organization’s vehicle as required.
A clean driver’s abstract is mandatory.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive and productive attitude within the team.
First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.
