Truck Driver | Labourer
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Truck Driver | Labourer to join our construction and civil operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating dump trucks to transport materials to and from job sites and for safely loading, securing, and hauling heavy equipment on trailers. This dual-role position is critical to the timely and safe delivery of both materials and machinery.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Dump Truck Operation:
Must be available to travel throughout NS and NB with overnight stays.
Operate dump trucks (with or without trailer) to transport aggregate, soil, asphalt, and other materials.
Follow designated routes and adhere to delivery schedules.
Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections of the truck.
Monitor load weights to comply with legal and safety standards.
Equipment Hauling:
Load, secure, and transport civil construction equipment such as excavators, loaders, and dozers on trailers.
Ensure proper use of tie-downs, chains, and binders to meet DOT safety requirements.
Deliver equipment to job sites on time and in coordination with project team and site supervisor.
Back trailers into loading/unloading positions safely and efficiently.
Load and unload materials onto trailers using a forklift or telehandler.
General Duties:
Maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform routine maintenance checks.
Complete and submit all required logs, inspection forms, and deliver paperwork accurately.
Communicate clearly with dispatch, site supervisors, and mechanics.
Follow company safety protocols and always wear appropriate PPE.
Assist with construction labour on site, as required.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Class 1 driver’s license with a clean driving record
Minimum 4 years’ experience operating dump trucks and hauling equipment.
Experience with lowboy, float, or tilt-deck trailers preferred.
Clean driving record and strong knowledge of road safety and DOT regulations.
Ability to lift, secure, and adjust heavy-duty load bindings.
Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to safety.
Familiarity with construction sites and civil infrastructure operations is an asset.
Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures related to heavy equipment operation.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Physical stamina and endurance to withstand long hours and perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
WORK CONDITIONS
Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Early mornings, occasional extended hours, and some weekend availability may be required.
Physically demanding tasks include climbing onto trailers and handling chains/straps.
Work at construction sites doing construction labour when not driving truck.
