The mandate of the Transit Customer Systems and Planning Service is to provide customer service, service planning and technology and control systems support for OC Transpo, geared to providing excellence in customer service delivery to 100 million transit customers per year by means of conventional bus, para transit and rail operations. The Technology and Control Systems branch is responsible for managing multiple and major transit IT projects that are highly complex, of multi-million dollar value, normally extend over multiple years, and may require extensive public consultation.
You are responsible for maintaining, developing, enhancing, integrating, monitoring, analyzing, administering, troubleshooting and resolving issues of complex integrated onboard transit fleet vehicle systems and related specialized software applications, including but not limited to the onboard central computer, Next Stop Announcement System (NSAS), cellular modem and onboard IP network, destination signs, Computer-Aided Design/Automated Vehicle Location (CAD/AVL), onboard transit control head (TCH), GPS system, Automatic Passenger Counting (APC), transfer printer, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and Digital Video Recorder (DVR), and PRESTO smartcard fare collection system.
You also: develop Quality Assurance (QA) processes across integrated systems, write test plans and perform unit, acceptance and regression tests on upgrades, enhancements and new developments; identify impacts of planned system changes or upgrades and develop mitigation strategies; and oversee communications to impacted users.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 4 year university degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Management/Technology or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of progressively more responsible experience in applications development and/or systems integration.
KNOWLEDGE
IT best practices and standards relating to:
Application development;
System Development Life Cycle;
System and Software architecture;
System Integration, preferably in a multi-vendor environment; and
Internet Protocol (IP) Networking.
Structured systems analysis and troubleshooting techniques
Software/Hardware testing techniques including test plan creation, unit, regression and load/performance testing
Relational databases, Structured Query Language (SQL) and data analysis including MS Excel, pivot tables and PowerPivot
Business Intelligence (BI) concepts and tools, including PowerView
Technical and non-technical document writing
Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
Understanding of Transit Operations and Intelligent Transit Systems is an asset.
