We are looking for a Senior QA to join our diverse team.
Reporting to the Manager, QA, this role is responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of Aetonix's software products through comprehensive testing strategies, automation, and quality advocacy. You will serves as quality subject matter expert within assigned development team, driving rapid testing cycles while maintaining high quality standards. You will champion quality best practices and ensure products meet healthcare compliance requirements before release.
This is a remote role based in Ottawa, Ontario.
Role Responsibilities:
Test Strategy and Execution
Develop comprehensive test plans and strategies for assigned products/features
Execute manual and automated test cases with high attention to detail
Design test scenarios covering functional, integration, regression, and edge cases
Perform exploratory testing to identify issues beyond scripted test cases
Validate fixes and perform thorough regression testing
Ensure test coverage aligns with risk assessment and business priorities
Maintain test execution velocity to support rapid release cycles
Test Automation Excellence
Build and maintain robust automated test suites using modern frameworks
Implement API testing, UI automation, and performance test scripts
Develop data-driven and keyword-driven testing approaches
Monitor and maintain test automation infrastructure
Achieve and maintain 70%+ automation coverage for regression testing
Quality Advocacy and Collaboration
Partner with developers to promote shift-left testing practices
Participate in requirements reviews to identify testability concerns early
Collaborate with Product Management to understand acceptance criteria
Work with UX/UI team to validate user experience and accessibility
Advocate for quality throughout the development lifecycle
Facilitate bug triage sessions and prioritization discussions
Mentor team members on quality best practices
Healthcare Compliance and Standards
Ensure all testing validates HIPAA compliance requirements
Verify security controls and data privacy measures
Test for healthcare-specific workflows and clinical scenarios
Validate patient safety features and fail safes
Document testing evidence for regulatory audits
Understand and apply FDA software validation guidelines where applicable
Ensure accessibility standards compliance (WCAG 2.1)
Defect Management and Reporting
Identify, document, and track defects with clear reproduction steps
Provide detailed defect analysis including impact, severity, and priority
Track quality trends and identify areas for improvement
Maintain test documentation
Communicate testing status and risks to stakeholders
Support production issue investigation and root cause analysis
Performance and Load Testing
Design and execute performance test scenarios
Identify performance bottlenecks and scalability issues
Monitor application performance metrics during testing
Validate system behavior under stress conditions
Ensure applications meet defined performance SLAs
Collaborate with DevOps on performance optimization
What we're looking for:
University graduate with a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
8+ years of progressive QA/testing experience
Advanced test design and analysis skills required: the ability to independently create comprehensive test coverage for complex features and conduct thorough defect investigation
AI/LLM testing skills are required: the ability to test AI-integrated features including text analysis, prompt engineering validation, and complex scenario generation
Proven track record in testing complex web and mobile applications, and APIs
Experience in healthcare technology or regulated industries beneficial
Demonstrated knowledge of testing methodologies and best practices (ISTQB or equivalent experience)
Test Automation Frameworks: Experience with Playwright, Appium, Cypress, Appirum, Detox or similar tools
Programming Languages: Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript for test automation
API Testing: Experience with Postman, or similar API testing tools
Performance Testing: Any performance testing tools
Test Management: Jira, TestRail, or similar test management tools
Version Control: Git workflows and branching strategies
Database Testing: NoSQL and/or SQL proficiency for data validation
Cloud Platforms: AWS testing considerations and cloud-based testing tools
Agile Methodologies: Experience with Scrum/Kanban, sprint testing cycles
Defect Tracking: Advanced Jira usage for defect management
Mentoring experience: willingness to share expertise with other colleagues
Critical thinking and independent test design: Ability to design comprehensive test strategies without over-reliance on automated tools or templates
Intelligent Test Maintenance: Experience with self-healing test automation frameworks
Predictive Analytics: Understanding of AI/ML for defect prediction and quality forecasting
Security Testing: OWASP testing methodology, penetration testing basics
Accessibility Testing: WCAG guidelines, screen reader testing
Healthcare Standards: HL7, FHIR, DICOM testing experience
