Position Overview
The Director of Operations for the Central region is responsible for leading the operations of all treating plants and distribution centers in the region. This Director interacts with Plant Managers, Accounting and Finance departments, Sales and Human Resources to make sure the budget of the facilities is managed properly, and the customers get excellent quality products in a timely manner. This Operations leader oversees production, environmental compliance of the facilities (including TRDs), Health and Safety Program, Financial Reporting, Capex Program, SAP and Engineering. This role offers the opportunity to work with a motivated, collaborative team and contribute to meaningful improvements across our plant network, where past initiatives have shown clear results.
This position is open due to an internal promotion and will be based either at our office/plant in Gormley or Shelburne. There will be a significant amount of travel involved in this role including:
Regular weekly day trip visits to our Toronto-area facilities (including Gormley, Shelburne, Guelph, and Peterborough)
Overnight travel to other plants within Canada’s Central(West) region
Visits to our headquarters in Montreal and other locations in Canada and the United States for meetings, conferences, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
Manages the growth & success of Central region plants and teams
Provides support to Plant Managers
Supervises & supports the TRD program for the central region
Coordinates with the Environmental Department for Central Region(Eastern Canada)(communication, reporting, etc.)
Coordinates with EHS on the management and implementation of the Health & Safety policy
Manages capital investment projects
Improves and promotes best practices & efficiency
Monitors and analyzes the current production flow and develops strategies for continuous improvement if necessary
Interacts with team members from other regions, including managers and directors throughout the organization to present findings to stakeholders and upper management
Ensures common training programs and performance measures across all plants
Manages the Quality Program
Researches new technology and alternative methods to promote efficiency
Prepares and reviews budget and operation costs
Oversees inventory, distribution of goods and facility layout
Negotiates collective agreements
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
10+ years of overall experience in the manufacturing industry required
5+ years of Plant Manager experience in an industrial manufacturing environment required
Experience in the treated wood products manufacturing industry required
Experience the treated lumber industry is preferred
Multi-plant (regional) management experience an asset
Bachelor’s degree an asset
French language skills an asset
