Nature & Scope → Your Role at Roots
The Die Cutter is responsible for checking leather and their materials and cutting dies, selecting areas to be cut, positioning pieces on the leather and other materials, matching the leather goods components (pieces) and checking cut pieces against specifications and quality requirements. Every step is executed with skill and attention to detail, entirely by hand.
Key Responsibilities → How You’ll Make an Impact
Executes production orders/job from Supervisor
Select leather and cutting dies for leather goods accordingly to specifications
Position leather on cutting bed of machine, maximize usage accordingly to skin grains, skin flaws and skin stretch
Operate clicker or punch press to stretch leather
Operate machine to cut leather or cut single leather skins by hand to make leather products
May cut leather samples
Marks outline of patterns on leather or skin using pencil
May stack tie cut pieces together
May cut parts with guillotine cutter
Performs routine maintenance on press and feeder including lubrication and minor repairs
Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment
Qualifications & Experience → The Skills You Bring
Previous work experience as die-cutter
Knowledge of working with leather products is a plus
Must be proficient using Swing Beam Cutting Press (also known as “clicker)
Outstanding attention to detail
Good eyesight
Strong mechanical ability
Ability to work well under time constraints
Ability to stand for 8 hours shift
Ability to lift 40 plus pounds
