About the Role:
Global Regina is currently seeking a full-time Weather & Traffic Anchor to join their team. This is a multi-market role based in Regina.
The successful candidate will be required to work early mornings, as well as evenings and weekends when required.
This position reports directly to the Regional News Manager.
You will contribute by:
Present informative and viewer-friendly weather forecasts with competence and
up-to-the-minute traffic reports.
Strong on-air presentation, including live remotes and unscripted material.
Meet multiple daily deadlines to write, post, promote and update local content on globalnews.ca.
Consistently post links, videos, and photos on social media to promote Global News content and engage with viewers.
Display creativity in the use of production graphics and other visual elements.
Continually monitor and track weather patterns/trends
Update emergency weather crawls, websites, and social media.
Generate original story ideas with a focus on weather and the community.
Participate in promotional and community initiatives.
Perform other duties as required.
Skills and experience you will bring:
Diploma/Degree in Journalism/Broadcasting from a recognized post-secondary institution
Minimum of 3 years of on-air experience in a small/medium market.
The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of weather patterns.
Must be able to clearly communicate how the forecast will impact our viewers.
Proven ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.
Strong writing and storytelling skills
Shooting and editing experience would be considered an asset.
Ability to adjust to changing priorities and meeting deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Must work well under pressure, possess a desire to be the best, have a positive can-do attitude.
Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows as well as show a willingness to learn new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation.
Desire to always push forward and try new things.
Familiarity with Canadian Press style and WordPress would be considered assets.
Possess a valid driver’s license and clear driving record.
