As the business continues to grow in both scale and complexity, their finance team plays a vital role in ensuring clarity, accuracy, and insight behind the scenes.
They are currently seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant for an 18-month contract position. As a key member of the finance team, this role supports the day-to-day and strategic financial operations across several entities. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Accountant will manage full-cycle accounting, ensure compliance and reporting accuracy, and assist with ongoing projects, including inventory tracking and systems enhancements.
Additional responsibilities will include:
Oversee accounts payable, including invoice review, bi-weekly pay runs, and vendor payments;
Review and approve employee reimbursements; reconcile third-party warehouse invoices;
Record and reconcile revenue from sales platforms and commission reports;
Assist with sales initiative tracking and invoicing;
Ensure accurate tax classification of products within the online store;
Create and issue invoices as required;
Implement and maintain a centralized inventory tracking system; manage gifting, damages, and employee purchases;
Prepare inventory reports and participate in year-end inventory count;
Assist customer service with financial documentation and responses related to customer chargebacks;
Analyze margins for each box cycle, including product, packaging, and shipping costs;
Prepare monthly financial statements and departmental reports;
Approve and review reconciliations (bank, credit card, PayPal);
Complete inter-company billing and reconciliation; monitor cash flow and bank balances;
Maintain internal accounting policies and documentation;
Prepare and remit government filings (GST, PST, payroll tax, U.S. sales tax, WCB, EHT, etc.);
Reconcile and submit CARM and CBSA border security payments;
Coordinate with external accountants for year-end reporting;
Present monthly financial analytics and support internal team with tax and refund-related questions;
Contribute to broader initiatives including carbon tracking, BCORP certification, and philanthropy goals;
Participate in ongoing finance projects and process improvements as needed.
Requirements
CPA designation or equivalent practical experience;
5+ years in full-cycle accounting with multi-entity exposure;
Strong understanding of inventory, compliance, and financial reporting;
Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Excel, and cloud-based tools;
Highly organized and able to manage priorities across multiple deadlines;
Effective communicator with a collaborative, solution-focused mindset;
Comfortable in a hybrid work environment and adaptable to change;
Experience in retail or ecommerce considered an asset;
Experience with U.S. sales tax and cross-border filings considered an asset.
This is a hybrid role requiring weekly in-office attendance at their Kelowna, BC office. Candidates not currently within commuting distance must be willing to relocate. This exciting 18-month contract, is anticipated to start in early October and offers a competitive salary ranging from $75,000 to $85,000 per year, depending on experience.
