NIIGAANIIN SERVICES EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
NIIGAANIIN SPECIALIST / DEGGAABWIT (OW AND ODSP CASEWORKER)
Location: Mississauga First Nation and Thessalon First Nation
Hours of Work: 37.5 Hours per week
Annual Salary Range: $45,000 - $50,000
Niigaaniin is looking for a Niigaaniin Specialist / Deggaabwit to support our Niigaaniin Services Team in Mississauga First Nation (MFN) and Thessalon First Nation (TFN) . Primary work site location will be located in Mississauga First Nation at Niigaaniin Services on Sawmill Road and will travel to and from TFN.
Under the direction of the Director of Niigaaniin Services or another appointed
person, the Niigaaniin Specialist / Deggaabwit performs a wide variety of duties
using a case management approach to deliver the Ontario Works (OW) and
Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) including maintaining eligibility for income
and employment supports.
Under the role of Niigaaniin Specialist / Deggabwit they are responsible for client
supports functions within the financial and employment component of Social
Assistance including but not limited to emergency assistance, on-going assistance,
and transitional support funding and any other type of funding provided under
Niigaaniin.
Requirements:
It is preferred for the applicant to be a registered band member of the First NationsFirst Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River FirstNation,of five years work experience in social assistance;with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment,Outlook and internet and other computer applications as applicable,applicable to the responsibilities of this position, and
Driver’s license and access to a vehicle would be considered and asset.
Must have a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check
Must be Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Applications, Word, Excel, Power Point,
Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills
Will have a college diploma and/or a university degree in social work, OR a minimum
Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First
serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin, culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Waawiindamaagewin,
Knowledge of Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support Program legislation, regulations, policy, procedures and funding arrangements would be an asset,
Knowledge of barriers faced by people with financial hardships and disabilities,
Knowledge of community resources and services available to assist community members with disabilities with emergencies, supports and employment opportunities,
Familiar with community services, networks and knowledge the Niigaaniin Services would be an asset,
Ability to work in a performance-based system with a proven track record of meeting targets and outcomes is essential,
Ability to provide excellent customer / community services to community members accessing services,
Ability to resolve conflict using problem solving and supportive approaches,
Interpersonal skills to effectively work with diverse populations as well as coworkers,
Communication skills to effectively case manage, both online and in person,
Time management skills to ensure tasks, cases are up to date,
Ability to learn new skills and software’s,
Requires minimum supervision, able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities,

Effective listening skills to determine community members needs and make appropriate referrals.
